I saw it too, but I don't take anything from that. These kids were constantly around limelight and it may have seemed like a show to him. Besides the fact that they were video taping as they do everything the test flight of the balloon. That said I still think they are poor parents.

Big bunch of bologna.
Should the whole bunch- kids- mom and pop be punished?
Well false alarm use up resources that are better used when some one actually needs help. In other words your son, daughter, husband, father, mom, wife gets in an auto crash. But because fire and rescue is tailling all over the country chasing a ballon, no one is there to help.
YES!!!!
In spades mom and pop stands tall before the man.

That is what the yahoo news report said, but of course, it could have been wrong.

I saw the video of the child gagging and his parents continuing the interview.

What flakes! I will be glad when this "reality" T.V. trend is over and dimbulbs are no longer compensated for providing us a freakshow. (Did you hear that Kate & Jon???)

I think it was the Larry King interview where the kid pukes. Google it and it's online.

They were showing that CNN video on all the news networks this morning--Good Morning America and The Early Show and whatever the third one is. I am pregnant, I was feeling sick and nibbling on a banana and trying to distract myself with the news...when this kid suddenly hurls and the camera zooms in on it! Then as I was frantically trying to change the channel, he puked again into a tupperware dish they had ready. So maybe he was already sick?

I have no idea why they just kept talking while he was puking. Kind of ruined my morning. I don't do puke.

I never saw video of either of the parents, or any family members, during the whole thing. I didn't hear that the dad was following the balloon or anything....??

Shelly

Of course not, they knew their kid wasn't in there. How the heck could one six year old climb into that box, and then release multiple tethers from inside? Then there were the kids with cameras ready ... if I was a parent, wondering if my kid was aboard that balloon, I'd have already known something was up by then ... and I'm surprise the cops couldn't see through that too.

There's no way the other kids did not know what was going on, no way one six year old released that balloon alone. A concerned parent would have gotten the truth out of those other two kids inside 5 minutes. The fact that they didn't / couldn't tells me that they didn't need to know where the 6 year old was. They all already knew where he was.

IMO, they were all in on this, parents included.

I'd still lay odds that the original plan was for junior to be miraculously recovered unharmed from a nearby body of water, to be followed quickly by "balloon boy" interviews, book deals, and a TV show. They probably underestimated the attention that the initial event would cause, and couldn't figure out how to pull it off under all the scrutiny.

I hope they get a huge bill for the emergency services once the fraud is uncovered.
