Naked neck genetics work as follows:
You can get naked neck with 2 gene combos.
Double naked neck gene (NN) gives you a bird with completely naked neck, no feathers at base of neck.
Single naked neck gene (Nf) has 1 gene for naked
thank both of you for the answers. so keeping the non naked pullets wouldnt produce any NN bred to there father ( regular chicken) or any regular chicken.. I don't know anything about my little hen NN. Other then she lays eggs , lots of eggs. I had kept 2 pullets from her spring hatch but someone stole the 10 pullets in that pen. So I am starting over again.
I do have a little rooster out of her that is out of her and a cochin bantam roo. He is so cute.
Naked neck is dominant. If they carry the gene for it they show it. You won't get any naked neck babies without a naked neck parent.

Hello Ron, I have to pull out from the hatch-along this year! My last two resources for quality hatching eggs just fell through.
Want to thank all the members hooking me up with breeder connections.
Have some wonderful eggs lined up for early spring.
Will be reading up on everyones hatchings!

Oh...cause I was just like wondering...We would have to come up with an alternate prize--Last year @bantambury donated a drawing of a picture of your choice for example.
She may donate again...Or a golden feather for first prize. The Admins are letting be give some of those out as prizes again this year.![]()
Yeah...I have been told to wait until day 7...I guess I was just WAYYY to exited!!NO!!! Sit on your hands or take up knitting or something
The way it was explained to me is that the embryo is much more susceptable to damage in the first 5 or so days. I candle on day 7 because there is something to see and less chance of damaging the embryo. 5 days is OK but until then I would leave them alone. At 2 days there is not much if anything to see. Not worth the risk to the fluffs.![]()
Probably someone will disagree...I tend to be a worry wartbut I think it was Ron who said wait until at least day 5.![]()
How enterprising of you!For those who don't have a record keeping system for the Hatch-A-Long, I've created this sheet to help keep things on track.
This is one sheet of a complete record keeping suite that I am currently working on using Open Office. The spreadsheet will be able to track multiple incubators, multiple flocks, expenses, income, housing needs and goals. This way, everything will be right at your fingertips to make flock management easier and more profitable.
In the spreadsheet version of this sheet, the daily average temperatures will be automatically calculated, along with the total average high, low and average temperatures and the humidity levels. The candling dates (7 and 14) on this sheet will be automatically replaced by the actual dates that you should candle based on the start date of incubation.
Also, after adding the "Eggs Set," "Bad Eggs," and "Hatched" values, the spreadsheet will automatically give you the "Hatch Rate."
I hope this sheet and the coming spreadsheet will be of use to you all for this and all future chicken activities.
