6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

This is my first New Year's hatch. It looks like I have eggs arriving on the 11th so I am officially in!! If they are late or I let them rest a day it will be okay because they are Seramas and usually hatch early for me. Also, today I got my very first egg from a bird I hatched!! I'm so proud : ) It is a tiny Serama egg and I can't wait to get more. I will probably put it in the incubator to see what happens.

I also set 99 quail last night and have a dozen Silkie eggs coming tomorrow but they will all be too early for the hatch-a-long.

How enterprising of you!
Funny!

Where can you get that spread sheet @Roan ??

Hatching logic at work:

Well, if I'm committed to hatching a few eggs I might as well fill the incubator. Ordered some eggs and they should be here on time. Shooting for blue birds (not shooting bluebirds) with some blue copper marans and BLRW. Shipped eggs are very iffy at my locale, though. If I get even one or two pullets out of 18 eggs I'll consider it a success.

I am going to load up the incubator on the 11th too. I have eggs that will be hatching, hope they scoot on out and make room! Hubby is getting Buff Orp eggs and RIR eggs from a co worker, so it just worked out. Glad someone mentioned this thread. I'm on page 37, lol.

I haven't gotten very far into reading this thread's submissions. Is there going to be a First Chick of the New Year contest? Guess how many eggs set contest? Farthest shipped egg success rate contest? Guess how many eggs hatched contest?

I swear, DH is going to think I've lost my mind joining this hatch-along as today we finally got the last of the house chickens out of the office and into the coop. He's going to wonder why the incubator and brooder are still set up and not put away.... (chicken math for a hatchaholic doesn't ever add up)
That's great! I just got my last batch out of the garage on Saturday so DH gets a whole 3 weeks without chicks in his shop.

This waiting is worse than waiting for Santa.

You're logic sounds right to me!

Hatching logic at work:

Well, since I've got a couple of local eggs going into the incubator I may as well fill the whole thing up; right? I ordered up some eggs which should be here in time for the setting date. I'm shooting for blue birds (not shooting bluebirds) with some blue copper marans and BLRW. However, shipped eggs at my locale (high altitude and brutal USPS) are a challenge, so even if I get only one or two pullets out of the 18+ shipped eggs I'll consider it a success.
Only 3 more days!

My HAL Bantam Cochin eggs fell through...the girls stopped laying

I have some barnyard mixes coming hopefully in time. Who know what will hatch but as long as my broody gets a couple chicks out of it I will be happy.
