6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Okay, vents are not covered. I've also re-vamped my incubation worksheet for download. I converted it to pdf to make it easier to download, fit regular paper sizes and use. Unfortunately, I don't have the 20 bucks right now for the Golden Feather Membership so I can't do attachments.

The Chicken Farmer's Complete Spreadsheet Suite a.k.a. CFCSS is coming along though!

As soon as I can figure out how to get it on here in its new form, I'll post it. Also, I'll need to figure out how to get the actual spreadsheet attached too so that everyone will be able to use it.

Here is the attachment:
Got it. Thanks.
Your Welcome and Thank You!

yes have read ton on it but I swear I feel like I havent read anything on anything now that I am actually doing it.........second guessing myself, it's distracting lol I was just tilting the egg carton by putting a wedge of Styrofoam under one end then the other that is not right? do I need to shift them in their same egg carton spot as well as tilt? but every other day I move them around in the egg carton for different spots......add all the different information and different methods of doing it on top of it it's enough to wanna yank your hair out.... and tytytytytytytytty so much for your patience and putting up with all my questions and everything.

I really do like using the modified egg carton to hold the eggs in the bator btw, I dont have to worry over them shifting and moving and bumping round and they just seem better maintained

I have a separate hatching incubator and last year I used the egg cartons in it and it was Great..... it is nice when they hatch and climb around on the un-hatched eggs, they don't move and it is not as messy. I do cut the cartons in half so I can space the eggs out. I do make a point to use the card board cartons, don't know that it makes a difference.

My humidity is all over the place. It was way low due to forced air heating (16%) shortly before setting so I took a new kitchen sponge and got it wet and put it in. When I went to set, it was up to 64% and the sponge was almost dry. So I took that out and cut it smaller and then wet it and put back in. I will check when I get home from work but I might have to go back to using one of the built in wells. It is such a pain to refill them because the eggs are in the way and it is hard to see so I overflow them. Lockdown is easier. I fold that kitchen sponge and put it in a hall pint mason jar that I fill up with water and that is usually just right and doesn't need to be refilled during lockdown. Anyone got good ideas for moisture in a Farm Innovators styro with turner? There isn't much room in there and about half of that little space is taken up by my thermo and hygro.

Hi there fellow broody hatchers....there is a contest just for you that Ron will be posting about on page one. Make sure you send him your numbers in a PM so that they get counted at set and then again at hatch

Any one else using a BROODY or two to hatch for you please make sure you send your details to Ron so you can be entered too!

This is how I do it: I set the temperature during the warmest part of the day and at night I take a long beach towel folded lengthwise and wrap it all around the seam of the incubator (where the lid and bottom meet) and fasten it with a clothes pin. If it is going to be very cold, I cover each plastic window with a folded wash cloth and if it's going to be even colder, I put one plug in. I leave all the little vent holes unobstructed. Most of the heat gets out through the windows and seam where top meets bottom. I will remove the towel in the morning depending on the room temperature and go to work. You can try this one day and use one of those thermometers with the memory to see what happened during the day with the temps.

Sigh, my other eggs are hatching slowly.
They're saying, "hey! chill! you humans take hours to hatch too, you know. and not only that, you then take months before you can even crawl! so what's the rush with us? sheesh!"
