Thanks for the info! I convinced my broody to get up for a minute so I could count her eggs. She had a little drink and some food and then went straight back to her 8 little eggs. :)

So sometime in the next 36 hours my first winter broody hatch is due to hatch

These babies are 3/4 silkie and 1/4 D'Uccle mama is grey daddy is MF so it will be fun to see what we get

My HAL eggs finally arrived yesterday and I got them under my broody at 1:25 I was a little dismayed when the woman at the PO brought out a Costco sized double cereal box...you know the kind that holds two bags... those things are thin! But it had no holes or punctures or observable damage. It was marked fragile but no arrows indicating which end should be up.

This is how she packaged them...In an egg carton. The carton wrapped in bubble wrap...small bubbles.. centered in the cereal box with newspaper. She had torn up an egg carton or two and egg carton bits were also shoved down into the newspaper surrounding the intact carton. They came from Southern CA and were mailed on Mon spent wed am to thursday am in a truck somewhere between here and Petaluma.

Shockingly nothing was cracked and there was just 1 detached air cell and several that were firmly where they should have been.

My broody girl has lf barnyard mix eggs. Their shells are everything from pale tan to dark brown and light blue to olive.

that I get something out of them.

If anyone is hatching just for the fun of it, like you might have too many chicks already - if that's possible.
I'm looking for EE, OE, BCM, Americauna and Welsummer chicks.

Sweet! Now I just hope people use it.

Is there anything about it that you think I should have changed/added/removed?

It is fine for most hatchers to use. Each individual may have special needs but this is a very good tool for most to use.

Want to get rid of a few of the wheaten Ameraucana/Ameraucana crosses that hatch?

I only set 5 of those egges. But I notice your in west Virginia I am in California. Come spring time I can ship you some eggs. All birds will be pen up and better chicks will be hatched.
But as I free range my chickens in groups during the summer ( one pen gets out one day the next pen the next day) but I cant not guarantee the neighbors chicken would fly in for some afternoon delight.
Usually the rooster runs a stranger off.
keep in touch if interested
I was going to hatch until Spring But I am Addicted bad......

That's exactly how I plan to do it when I get more set up. How many flocks do you have? I hope to have at least 4 different flocks in the end so they would get to free range every fourth day.

I have that problem with my LG with the aftermarket fans. they push TOO much air and dry everything out. This is what I do cut a paper towel into quarters.and fold it in half. cut a dime size hole in the towel and lay it over the fan expel hole. Then I take a big syringe about an 1 1/4" in diameter from the feed store in the horse section. Remove the plunger and turn it upside down..pointy end up over the ventilation hole where the fan's air escapes. and using the little plunger ears, tape it in place over the hole. the moisture that collects runs down the sides and is absorbed by the paper towel so your fan doesn't get wet and the plunger makes a restrictive chimney to essentially 'dim' the fan. Or you could just buy a fan dimmer kit and turn the fan down...but hey! I was desperate and it worked so I just leave it that way. Be sure to use a very large syringe so the moisture doesn't block the hole at the top. You will not BELIEVE how much more control you have over the humidity when you do this!
