My eggs are here!!! I picked them up from the PO earlier today and they have been resting at home while I went back to work.

I candled to see if I could determine what was going on with the air sacks...is this the darker spot on the big end of the egg? I just want to make sure I was understanding what I was seeing.

The dark spot moved in a couple of them, so I have turned off the automatic turning feature for the first 24 hours. Does that make sense?
Glad they came! Now, don't turn those eggs for at least 12 hrs. I got mine today, going to go ahead and set them tonight since they were out a while, not sure how old they are. Checked air sac on one, looked ok. Had a cracked one in there, opened it to check for fertility...fertile! :)

I just got a call from home. The eggs for the HAL are here but the bottom of the box is wet...I have a bad feeling about this shipment....

Oooo, wet isn't good. Hopefully the eggs didn't get wet. This is how my box when I picked mine up this morning. But, the eggs looked good..they were out for a while, we will see what we will see.

That's exactly how I plan to do it when I get more set up. How many flocks do you have? I hope to have at least 4 different flocks in the end so they would get to free range every fourth day.

I have 10 separate pens. They dont all get to roam. I have to many things around here that killed or steal chickens. I like to turn them out in the afternoons 3 or so now about 2 hours before they go to bed. That I fine they do not wander to far from home....
I am not sure if this year I can let them out my new neighbors let their bird most Rooster stay out all the time..
Now the chickens I want as purebred stay in all of breeding season..
Brahmas
white marans
cream crested legbars
amerucana
salmon favs
wheaten marans their getting old
cochin bantams mixed color
cochins barbed bantam
brown leghorns
oh darn I have way too many chickens......
a few mixed breeds that run around ...
I wish they could be trained to stay with their own breed it would be a lot simpler LOL

Want to get rid of a few of the wheaten Ameraucana/Ameraucana crosses that hatch?

I only set 5 of those egges. But I notice your in west Virginia I am in California. Come spring time I can ship you some eggs. All birds will be pen up and better chicks will be hatched.
But as I free range my chickens in groups during the summer ( one pen gets out one day the next pen the next day) but I cant not guarantee the neighbors chicken would fly in for some afternoon delight.
Usually the rooster runs a stranger off.
keep in touch if interested
I was going to hatch until Spring But I am Addicted bad......

I am 25 miles from you. My chickens look at me and say let me out of prison daddy! My willpower is non-existent. They are all out eating worms and bugs and greens right now. They are unbelievably happy and excited when they get to go free.

I don't have any chickens laying right now, but soon. I don't know what I would do with any more, as my wife told me I could get about four chickens and as of now we have 22. More chicken math.

Good luck everyone with all the hatching! Kern
