6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

So I have some fuzzy butts to show off. I know these don't count for the NYD hatch along, I just wanted some Christmas babies, and the funny thing is this has been my best hatch so far. I got 20/22 which is a 91% hatch rate. The other 2 pipped and started zipping but just quit, not sure why or I would have had a 100% hatch rate. Anyway I got 10 black sex-links 7 girls and 3 boys, 7 white leg horns and 3 itty bitty black bantam cochins. So all in all a great Christmas gift.

And I have 4 more cochins and 4 SLW/GLW due for the NYD hatch

Very cute! You did well too.. I posted a ways back that I had hatch day before yesterday. 19 out of 20 made it! My HAL eggs best do this well. Congratulations on a great hatch and cute babies!

DH is on call for work over new years and I just might sleep next to the 'bator on the hide-a-bed (I've got it in the spare room) out of excitement and anxiety.
It will be fun when you hear that first little cheep in the middle of the night from and internal pip. :D But on the other hand, who knows, maybe a few will hatch early!

The rain is missing us in the Sacramento area--Skipped over to the Mountains.

Stay Dry!

We're supposed to get it tomorrow..hope it is snow instead of rain..soo much rain this month. It would be fun to wake up to some light snow falling softly down onto the ground. Not a heavy snow.

Well I lost one of my eggs in the incubator. Judging by the embryo development, it probably died around day 5.
The 4 eggs I placed under what I though, or was hoping was a broody hen, didn't work out. The hen sat in the nesting box about 8 hrs, then left after laying an egg.
This puts me at 6 eggs remaining in the incubator.

Oh man, I can just smell those rolls now.

I am letting the yeast proof and will start kneading soon. They will raise for an hour and then shaped into rolls. The rolls go into the fridge overnight and get puffed up in the oven with hot water in a pan below the rolls. I can have the rolls ready very quickly in the morning.
Today is day 10 i candled again and took weights. We have 3 confirmed not fertile, and 1 maybe the rest are all doing great. The last maybe i dont see any veins on but it definately has a mass in it of some fashion. The remaining 8 have very nice veins but saddle/wobbly aircells which they seem to be growing fine with. So still have 9 of 12 muscovy eggs, chicken eggs i could not candle because it was not dark enough before i had to head out for holiday travel. i will assume they are still the same as my previous count until i candle again on day 14, last count was i believe 3 clear of 11 for chicken eggs.
Good job on the muscovy's!

My friend made me a Christmas gift! Earlier this year I ordered some Speckled Sussex eggs to hatch. I was accidently sent Silkie mix eggs and this was one I hatched. My friend now owns him. He reminds me of an old hippy with a beer belly. He's so ugly, I laugh every time I see him, so she made me this mug.

That's awesome about the hatches and crazy about the weather. Up here in Northern West Virginia, we've also been getting a little rain. The scary thing is that it's Christmas Eve and I've been outside most of the day in shorts!!! We should be up to our knees in snow right now! I never thought I'd say this but I miss the snow.

I miss the snow too...
