6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Locked down. 6 early quitters float tested, pulled and put into vinegar out of sheer morbid curiosity. That leaves me with 31.

And a brand new bator getting heated up next to my old one with a full load ready to set. DH has become a super enabler. He even helped me put together a new brooder setup, well its not done, but he helped.

What are you setting for this next hatch?

I've been having trouble with the computer again so I'm 350 posts behind. I started late and this is day 11. I've been doing the cool down for 3 days and keeping it at 100. The humidity is staying 32-35 and during the cool down it bumps it up to 45. So it's going good. I can't candle worth a darn but I can see 3 clears and 12 that are developing. I hope, I hope. I have 12 Marraduna Basque and 3 Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons. Or something. I was not familiar with them. She sent them for fillers.

same thing - mille fleur d'Uccles. I am breeding those until at least end of Feb, maybe longer for 4H customers. First hatch probably won't be here long, I have a good customer list going already.

what are we gonna do with u Linda?

so, we don't leave it at 99.5 for hatching? I knew about up'ing the humidity, but I haven't heard about dropping the temperature.

It is not necessary. Some sources say it will help the chicks hatch better.
As far as I know it's not necessary. But I'd like to know the benefit
Lowering the temperature helps with the oxygen level in the incubator as humidity goes up. It is not necessary.

14 into lock down tonight, 8 in the morning. So, pretty much, they are both going at the same time. I am bringing the humidity up some tonight on the 14, and not the 8. Will see if this causes anything different..being only a day apart..I doubt it. All of the 14 are viable. Pretty sure all of the 8 are too. What?! More chicks. A lot more. Need to get my others that hatched last week placed, the ones that I don't want to keep.

I set my eggs in the incubator on the 8th at 11pm.. So I thought tomorrow will be hatching day. . But so far no external pipping! . This is driving me CRAZY! Am I doing something wrong? First time doing this and I think it's the last one!
