6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

That's awesome! It's a fantastic morning when you wake up to a bator full of fuzzy butts lol they're so cute!

2 duckies so far! A male and a female. I'm dying to take them out of the bator lol one more egg is zipped and working on kicking out. Another egg with a pip and the last egg got knocked where I can't tell if it's pipped yet or not but at last candle it was a little behind the others so I expected it to be last already. I'm hoping all 5 make it! Originally there were 9 eggs. 2 never developed, 1 was a very early quitter, and 1 tried to hatch extremely early but didn't make it.

Glad to hear they are doing good!

Several more have popped since that pic, and have several more pips now too. I am disappointed that I haven't got a single Lavender Orp yet though. I'm hoping they are just sleepyheads and will join the party soon.

Not sure if this will help you but my girls free range also. Due to all the predators I have to lock them up every evening. When they are hiding their eggs I leave them locked up longer in the morning and when I let them out I watch them and if one is holding an egg to hide usually one or more will run to the hidden nest and start the egg song. Also you could try to put a fake egg in the nest box most of the time if they see an egg in a nest the rest think it's a safe spot and will lay there. Monkey see monkey do kinda thing

I have decided to not participate unless I have a broody with better timing. I have two broodies at the moment. One with eggs one still waiting. Having her sit on air for three weeks and then giving her eggs just seemed selfish and I am worried that it might be too much sitting for her. I am giving eggs to her sooner and unless someone starts sitting on or around 12/9 I won't be hatching on NYD. Have fun you all If it's OK I will still post my hatch pics.
Chicks will be due to hatch 12/13 and tentatively around 12/24....Christmas Eve hatching sounds good to me

When I finally crashed last night I had 6 hatched, including the wrong end pipper. This morning I woke up to this.

There are several up under the zebra thing too. I have no idea how many are in there now. There is too much chaos to get a head count.

I would sure love to see pics! They might be able to help the rest of us keep our hands of the bators...

Im so glad last hatch went well for you. Unfortunately I do not raise Serama.

For purebreeds I have Blue/Splash Silkies, also Cream Legbar and Marans.

For crosses I do have a few other breeds (Spitzhauben, Olive Eggers and a Marans) in with a Cream Legbar cockerel, these crossbreds would technically be considered Easter Eggers and Olive Eggers.

Could it be possibly get a mix dozen of everything?

Yes it is!

As much as I'd love for DH to be an obsessive bird nerd, I will settle for active enabling lol he was going to get me ayam cemani eggs for the hatch a long and I had to talk him out of it. I'm terrified they wouldn't hatch after paying so much money. Maybe next year when I feel more confident in my incubating

I may be setting eggs for an xmas hatch as well. Not sure yet. I have some on order that are being collected and then I'm at the mercy of the postal system. So we will see. Good luck on your hatches! I'm surprised there's not a Christmas hatch a long thread going as well
