6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Here is a shot of the only pullet I have left from last years NYDH.

400

This was when she was 18 weeks or so old. Much more mature now. This little one is about 1/4 Banty. She has tried to set. Broke her up though as I don't car for broodies, babies aren't accepted by the grown ones.

1st pls note this is my 1,000 th post on BackYard Chickens, & I've saved it up special to say--

I'm IN for the New Years Day Hatch 2015 !!!!!

I'm getting a couple dozen or more BYM eggs from a wonderful "stanger" fellow BCYer who answered my plea , is saving a lovely mix colors & who is going to drive an hr to meet me half way to get me these eggs, meanwhile my co-conspirator is going to drive 1 hr to my house pick me us & drive another hr to meet our hatching egg fairy ;> My co-conspirator is a 20something friend who will be getting half the chicks for her new homestead.

I will also be getting a few eggs from birds I gave away to co-conspiritors parents this summer (EE mutts)

AND
if everything goes as hoped there will also be some DUCK EGGS , (yes truly messiest hatchings ever but too cute to pass up) mutt ducks but again atm I don't care its just all for fun.

So Ron, if you would please do the honors & add me to the officially signed up list, THANKS!

Welcome back!

You are getting a lot of eggs I bet!

I have decided to not participate unless I have a broody with better timing. I have two broodies at the moment. One with eggs one still waiting. Having her sit on air for three weeks and then giving her eggs just seemed selfish and I am worried that it might be too much sitting for her. I am giving eggs to her sooner and unless someone starts sitting on or around 12/9 I won't be hatching on NYD. Have fun you all If it's OK I will still post my hatch pics.
Chicks will be due to hatch 12/13 and tentatively around 12/24....Christmas Eve hatching sounds good to me

I wasn't even *considering* hatching eggs until I saw this thread. I mused out loud, "Oh, look, honey. My crazy chicken people are all hatching eggs for New Year's 2015. That's cute."

The look on his face let me know we were participating.

I'm surrounded!!! Hahaha.

I'm still working on him for Blue Laced Barnevelders in spring... I can't imagine it will be a struggle! :p I am such a spoiled chicken lady!

I can't wait to start posting pictures of the incubators and eggs all set up! :D :D :D

She is adorable!!! Love her. What color eggs does she lay?

I kept 3 of my last years NYDH chicks. I ended up with 5 Silkie Cockerels and 2 Silkie Pullets, and also 2 Olive Egger Cockerels. So I kept 1 Blue Silkie cockerel and the 2 Splash Silkie pullets.
