6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

I have a broody question for anyone still hanging around on this thread. What is the best way to keep water from freezing for the little chicks? I have heated dog water bowls in the pen but I'm thinking that I'll need to take that out in order to prevent drowning.
Use the bowl but fill it up with marbles so that they will not drown but can still drink.

They look so peaceful!

Are you had feeding them?

It's called traumatize them with the dreaded camera, which they hate. Actually, I think they mostly must be cockerels. They attack the bowl when I feed. I've never had chicks that have used their wings like this group. They look like they are doing a cross between a wing dance, flog and hide the food from everyone else. A couple, including the chick that had wry neck, I have to bodily remove from the bowl that I bring their food in. They're kind of little hooligans.

The splash australorp is getting some very light blue feathers. This is going to be a very pretty chicken!
