6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

I just wanted to share a picture of the prize I won for cutest chick made by @blackgoat . It's a felted likeness to our two Speckled Sussex roosters. I just love it! Thank you so much!
WOW, wow, wow!!!! Great work! & your pick of mother & baby chick was an endearing photo!

I don't get it....cary, which is a town about 20 minutes from me allows chickens; up to 5 hens, in the neighborhood. if cary allows this why cant my area? its weird....even with this much land.

I found an online petition with 75 signatures....do I sign it and try and find more petitions? im not exactly sure what to address...I want the chickens but the people around me may not want them around.

I know this is a few weeks old but if you are moving to a farmy type area with very few neighbors I would just ask the neighbors if they would mind. The part of the property I have my chickens on is technically zoned as residential and by-laws here prohibit chickens on residential land. But so many of my neighbors have chickens/horses/cows/sheep or orchards that I didn't bother to ask anyone. If anyone does complain I will try to calm them with free eggs/meat and if that doesn't work I will petition to have the property re-zoned as Agricultural Land Reserve....or pay the price to upgrade to farm status.. Nobody seems to mind though so you might be able to do what I have and just have chickens anyways. Also most people are too lazy to check zoning even if they have a complaint haha

Wow, I'm kinda jealous. My chicks look about half that size and I won't know their sex for several more weeks. But then, I know the breed is slow growing and they'll get there.

BTW, one of my dogs was trying to see where the chick noise was coming from, so I sat him on my lap and he watched the video.

That camera does a good job with sound.

The breeds I have are easy to tell gender at early ages. I knew at 3 weeks pretty much.
