6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

How long is the longest you have let a girl sit before giving her eggs? Is 3 weeks too long? I want to participate here but I am afraid my girl will be officially full on broody in the next couple of days so she would be sitting for 6 weeks if I don't give her eggs until 12/10. I have held them off for about 2 weeks before but never 3. What are your thoughts??
I had a Bantam sit for seven weeks.... First eggs were duds and I let her go over a few extra days, but she was not giving up... So I gave her more eggs and let her keep going. I just started feeding her lots of protein packed foods, she sure had a taste for it. Loads of scrambled eggs and made sure she had water... She did well, didn't loss much weight once I started offering her proteins.
x2 with hennible! I think she'll be fine as long as you make sure she's getting plenty of water and a high protein food so she doesn't lose too much weight and get weak. Eggs are great for them, and you could go ahead and start offering chick crumble to her as well. She'll be eating it with the chicks if she is raising them anyway.

I candled a few eggs ( yeah it's only day 4

I added tips and such to the first thread. I will start the members list soon.

Muscovies need to be set on the 27th of November--they take 35 days.

Thanks for more great advice. I already feed a starter grower so we have that covered but I will make sure to make her a meal worm and walnut omelet every few days just to be sure

I have another girl who I am hoping to give cochin or silkie eggs to this weekend. I have been saving silkie d'uccle x silkie eggs for her in case the others don't come through. Pretty happy that I get to play along with this second broody.

Thanks! Did you add regular quackers, geese, peafowl, turkeys and guineas (folks in the Southern Hemisphere are just getting starting, I think).

Thanks Kathy for the PM!

I will go through the tips section and add some stuff tomorrow. The Muscovy air cell chart is a now one.

Also, let the southern hemisphere members know about the NYD hatch a long!
