What are you using for a thermometer? The weird apparent drop in temps may actually be the thermometer not reading temps correctly.

I use those battery operated hydrometer/thermometer from Walmart.

Well I guess that explains why you have them hatching two days early.

Yep, thats why. Some hatch on time also but I always have some hatch early.

Btw, the original post says that we should set chicken eggs on 12/11/14. However, shouldn't we actually start setting them on 12/10/14 since it takes time for them to get up to temp? Or am I calculating wrong?

Just want to clarify for new hatchers and fairly new hatchers like myself.

And some tips would be appreciated as I have yet to have a full clutch hatch. My hatch rate is always very low.

For this last clutch though, I'm sure the problem was the loss of heat due to frozen gas lines for a night and most of a day and then a spike to 108 degrees the next day due to panic and the compulsion to turn the dial after the freeze. This time, also, I have a hygrometer. I underestimated the importance of humidity in the past.

nope! set day is the 11th. setting them on the 10th will make them a day early. we went the chicks hatching new years, so 21 days later from new years is that

The eggs will start incubating about an hour after hitting the incubator(or under the broddy) Noon on the 11th has them hatching in new years eve. We will have early and late though so it does not matter.

I had a unknown disease in my clock so I will not hatch in till April due to the fact that a chicken died from the disease, and I have had a sudden death to a chick although those fuzzy bundles would be fun to hatch, although I might due the Easter hatch-a-long
