I'm going to join in. Hubby caved on getting an incubator. Just had to throw in that DS's Birthday coming up and he wants to hatch with me.
Now I just have to decide quick on the Brinsea mini adVance or eco 20. Opinions? TIA!

I searched many breeders for quality eggs and one is coming through. Will be traveling several hours to collect them on the 9th. Excited to be on board & looking forward to all the posts!

No, it is Noon or as close as possible where you live. It makes for a lot of excitement as different time zones set eggs.

well violet is being very cooperative for the hatch along she laid another egg today I'll test for fertility and keep my fingers cross

Test for fertility? How do you do that? (Other than cracking it open and looking for the white bulleye)

It is a good idea for shipped eggs. It is a preference for local not shipped eggs.

why is there a difference at lock down? I understand them being more picky when setting the eggs, but I guess I was hoping that by the time lock down happened, they would be just like local eggs.

The eco is not as advanced as the mini so you have to hand turn it--which is simply a matter of turning the incubator onto the sides of the octagon shape. The other big difference is the number of eggs you can set for hatching.

Shipped eggs are prone to air cell damage and bad egg yolk absorption. The combination makes it likely that the chick will pip and then goo will close the hole. The chick will either drown or suffocate at that point. The oddly shaped air cells can also make it more likely for the chick to peck into a vein when it internally pips. They will die then too.

All eggs do better if they are set big end up for the first 18 days. That is usually not a problem because of auto egg turners.
