I'm in, too!

With the dismal luck I've had at high altitude (5200 ft) hatching shipped eggs and the late date for finding anything to be shipped in a timely manner, I thought I wouldn't be in. But then I happened upon the local Sunday Growers Market (only held in the winter the first Sunday of the month, otherwise it's every Sun and Weds during the summer) on my errand journeys today and the very first booth had locally laid fertile eggs! I picked up 2 dozen. There's hope I might get a decent hatch!

They are Blue Andalusian, RIR and EE crossed with an Ameraucana roo. I'm hoping the Andalusian cross will lay a nice light blue egg.

I had to laugh because I told DH I was going to buy chicks in the Spring to fill out our coop and had even picked out what purebreds to throw into our motley crew of RSL, OE and TJ surprise, but now it looks like more feathered mutts will just complement all the crosses already there. (I had set in Aug and Sept all sorts -- 70+ in count -- of purebred and a few crossbred eggs and -- yep, you guessed it -- not a single purebred pullet hatched. Well, I have one supposed CCL, but she looks like a RIR got into the hen pen somehow as she's a decided cinnamon color). I think this hatch-along's serendipity might be the Universe's way of telling me a coop of crossbreds will suit my purposes just fine.

(And wouldn't you know it --

-- I've already broken one of the EE eggs. Butterfingers. Maybe I can find another batch of TJ's eggs to fill in as I've still a few seats left on the bator bus as it rolls on to Hatchville)

I haven't gotten very far into reading this thread's submissions. Is there going to be a First Chick of the New Year contest? Guess how many eggs set contest? Farthest shipped egg success rate contest? Guess how many eggs hatched contest?

I swear, DH is going to think I've lost my mind joining this hatch-along as today we finally got the last of the house chickens out of the office and into the coop. He's going to wonder why the incubator and brooder are still set up and not put away.... (chicken math for a hatchaholic doesn't ever add up)

I will post the basic set of contests. Other contests would be member driven.

I've been keeping up pretty regularly on the thread and the only contest I've seen so far is on the very first post. I'm sure there will be more added and yours sound like good ones. :) I hope they're implemented.

Edit:

Okay, so after posting that I've been keeping up pretty regularly with the posts, I somehow missed ronnott's post which answered your question. lol oops!
