It's hard, isn't it? You want to get in there and fuss with the incubator, rearrange eggs, check and double check the temps and humidity all the time, wonder if you can candle light-shelled eggs early.... What a bunch o' hand-wringers we are!

There isn't much to see until the third or fourth day even in light shelled eggs.

I should be able to see into the Trader Joes eggs very easily. If any of the develop, I will make a candling video.

thats funny I just came from outside and giving the chickens some melon and greens and was thinking about how wensday thursday would be candling time for the eggs


the incubator is doing great it brings the temp right where it needs to be within 10ish minutes of opening the bator..the humdity ran a wee bit high at 37....for doing this dry hatch is there a max besides not under 20 humdity? where I dont need to feel frettsome when it doesnt read perfect?

Yes, the TJ eggs are fun to candle. The shells are so thin that as time goes on you can actually candle them in the turner tray... They light up and the chicks jump about and are plainly visible without having to move them.

37% is fine. Under 55% is still dry.

The important thing is to watch air cell development. If they are getting bigger too fast, increase humidity a bit. If they are growing too slowly, decrease humidity a bit.

The air cell charts for different poultry and the days to check them are in the first post of this thread.

ty.......... I had a huge problem seeing the aircell I dont know if it was just my light or what.. I did try to candle an egg with a brighter light an egg I had in the fridge would that make a differnce being from fridge as aposed to a hatching egg?
