@domesticzoo Question? What's with the circles around the top of the eggs? Is that something I should be doing?

Some of us mark the air sac circle before lock down..some will do it weekly to watch how the air sac is doing. It isn't necessary, helps to see how well the air sac developed. Especially if you were doing it during incubation, then you could adjust temp/humid...accordingly.

ok...........should I place on wire under egg cartoon or in the wired off air with an end in the container to wick moister? I ask because if I put the paper towel on the wire wont the humdity dampen it and allow it to form more humdity? sorry hope that makes sense.....sometimes this medium is frustrating for me to explain physical stuff (which is why I often ask twice to make sure I understood what was ment not what I read)

The paper towel is twisted and pushed into the water channels. It depends on your incubator but the Genesis incubator has long narrow channels and then water tanks. The twisted paper towel creates surface area which increases humidity. It is the same way that a sponge works.

Humidity is from the size of the surface of the water, not the volume of water.

I just had to know so I lifted Beverly's feathers just in front of her wing and I saw a little black fuzzy! Beverly is white and brown and I know from the egg that this is a chick from my black english bantam Kasidy. The chick wasn't moving so I poked it ever-so-gently and it immediately perked up and started pecking at the ground. First one is here and so far so good!

The egg just next to the little chick was pipped. Trying not to be too intrusive so resisted looking at the rest of them. How often should I check on her?

I set 14. 2 broke when my turkey caught the broody bug and decided to clumsily climb into the same nest with Beverly. 2 were clear when I candled at day 10. 1 is here and 9 to go! How can I be calm at a time like this?!?

Yay!!

I started cheeping at my eggs already... I think it makes the hurry up and try harder. I've got about 4 wigglers. I just put my last two eggs on lockdown. These are my very first eggs from my own birds I hatched and they have really small air cell... good thick shells though! I hope they shrink a bit. I set them a couple days after these others so that they may actually hatch on New Years.

This bator that I am borrowing worried me with this last hatch, it holds humidity like no other, had condensation on the windows. :/ Was not happy about that at all, but just left it as I saw the humidity was reading where I wanted it. I had a great hatch!
