6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

I have a chick that is two days early! It looks perfectly fluffed up already too.

There are no other pips, so I will get a brooder set up and then get the incubator locked down for the rest of them.

I will get a picture soon.

<3 those BCM.. That's what was in my disaster hatch last summer so I still have none. But that's my next breed now.. Hubby even brought it up himSELF today!!!

Re: wrong end pip.. Don't you find their eggs to be soo round? Mine sure were. Same color as yours too. Beautiful!!

I'm pretty sure it piped on the wrong end. The membrane also bled a bit when the chick punched through.

we'll see!!! hope they all hatch soon. it's starting to freak me out

I imagine once you have one or more hatch, they create some humidity for the others!

What method do you use to prevent shrink wrapping?  I also have a cabinet incubator.  There is no great way that I have thought of for me to sneak out the chicks.

Anytime I open the incubator while hatching I put a new wet towel/wrag on one of the trays for additional humidity. I'm sure some will be shrink wrapped, when hatching that many its bound to happen. Right now my garage is 65% RH so I wasn't as worried about it.

We have 5 babies and plenty of pips. Sends like they are all taking a rest now. 3 of the 4 eggs I gave to my broody a couple of days ago hatched out and look good.

The babies are move and strong, holding their heads up good and moving. But they sure are quieter than that last batch that had olive eggers and Marans in it!

Thanks for thinking of me.

There will be another hatch. As much as I don't want to I am going to open these eggs so I can study them..
Bosingleton..thats a crazy number of chicks. Love the bator!!

Soak the eggs in white vinegar. It will dissolve the shell and you'll be able to see what happened without the terrible process, as I understand it.

Fortunately, there are future eggs out there that need your kind attention! ♡

Was it a TJ chick or a blue? Either way.... YAY!

To all those whose eggs have stalled, hang in there! Earlier this year I had a Welsummer chick that didn't pip until Day 25. Talk about handwringing...sheesh!
