I want a silkie for sure. That's my next option. i will probably just use it to try and get my buttons to hatch after the chickens are out. My Button loves to lay eggs but she gets bored after 10 days. I thought the price was worth the experiment and read mixed reviews. I can only hope for the best!
My only complaint on my silkie, is that the baby chicks were not as tame as I wanted. But about 4 days of giving them scratch, and now they are tame as anything. They were pecking my shoe yesterday.
It is SOOO easy this way. I bought young silkies, and had to wait for them to mature. Only one of the 2 has matured, so try to get one that is already laying. Put her into a pen by herself, and put some fake eggs in the pen so she will go broody. Make sure her "brood box" is nice and dark and protected.
Then you can quarantine her and let her sit the eggs for 21 days at the same time. 2 birds with one stone.

I have this incubator! It was my first one. I had 4 mallard eggs in it, 1 hatched and was shrink wrapped so I had to help. Then I tried 7 quail eggs and all developed but quit around hatch date, none hatched. Then I tried 7 chicken eggs, 4 quit around day 15 and then 3 died after pipping.
I took it apart and found mold growing in the bottom from over flow water, and some wires looked like they caught fire.
I still have it till this day!

Have you used it again?

I sent a request for a refund and am looking at the Janoel 10 or maybe janoel 48. I do not plan on hatching 48 eggs, but like the way it keeps track of days and all, both have clearness to them and are less expensive then other incubators.

yes you can see pretty well with the 12 egg janoel or magicfly incubator, search either or both on ebay...they are the same incubator, they look like a piece of clear Tupperware in an oval shape. You can't get a real good view of all eggs but a front row seat to the ones on the outer edge. I have been meaning to post some of the mods I have done. But to give credit where its due most has been inspired by some vids I saw on youtube. I believe the author was "flower mound girl". There is a lot of good info on youtube about these incubators. If you search reviews you will see a lot of negative comments mainly I think because the instructions that come with it are terrible. Keep in mind with any incubator the stabler the outer environment the easier it is for the incubator to stay on an even keel...avoid draft and areas that vary widely in temps throughout the day. Also experiment for awhile with dry runs b4 fertile eggs to get a feel for it. These measure in celsius its best to have a known good thermometer. You can calibrate these bators but as long as you know the difference from true and what the readout is your good to go without calibration. One more tip for small incubators, practice with nothing in it is not the same as a full load of eggs....dry runs give a feel for how it works but try an experiment with some practice eggs as the mass of the eggs will make it take a bit longer to reach temps verse no eggs in the bator. All the mass in the eggs creates a snowball effect as the eggs start to climb to desired temp the bator will not stop climbing as quickly as it would with no eggs in it...but it will regulate given a bit extra time. I have never used the auto turner because you can fit very few in it. I modified some plastic egg racks for quail and chickens and I tilt the entire incubator to and fro 3 to 5 times a day. Hopefully my rambling made some sense to you but I have had several of these and they work very well with some practice!
