The first chick was supposed to be a guaranteed hen from a small farm down the road and either Ameraucana, Araucana, or EE. They mix all of their blue egg layers together. The cape is what is making me wonder if it is a roo, as well as it’s very bossy personality. Any breed and/or gender guesses?

The second chick is one we hatched from our own chickens for the first time. I think he’s a roo and my husband thinks it’s a pullet. It is an Olive egger/Blue Laced Red wyandotte mix.

Thanks for any help!!

Top is a pullet, Easter Egger.

Bottom is looking like a rooster to me. That is I think a cushion comb? (pea parent bred to rose comb parent) that is very fleshy and red for the pea/cushion type especially at 7 weeks of age.

Wait it out, but I think that second bird will turn out to be male as the coloring is also very patchy looking with some red coming in at the wing bows. Ambiguous still though.

Me too! I go back and forth with the gender for both of these. I’ll post again in a few weeks. I think it will be much more obvious by then!

Could you repost pic in 3wks?
The first looks to be Pullet (comb) but I'm thinking Cockerel cause I think I see hackle & saddle feathers starting. The second looks to be a Cockerel (red comb) but the feathering makes me think Pullet.
I'm so confused ....

I read somewhere that pea combs that show three rows are often indicative of cockerels and the EE/Ameraucana chick is the only of my pea comb group that has the three distinct rows. The photo doesn’t show it well. That and the hackle feathers are making me question the gender.
