For the new contest, here's my picture: the coop my father helped me build this summer. As for edible, you'll notice the small raised garden attached where edible things grow, plus the nice nesting box from which I get delicious eggs.

Lean-to coop 36x96".
built from: one old screen door obtained for free from my neighbor, two sheets of plywood, a roll of 1/2" hardware cloth, three 4x4 boards for the base, an old window converted into a hen-house door, and a bunch of 2x4s for the frame

On a random note, all you duck hatchers are making me jealous

I'll post pictures when I get it finished, hopefully tonight. Currently I have an assortment of parts... Digital thermostat, temp and humidity gauge, egg turner, computer fan, light and heat pad, screen now to put it all together. I am open to any insight others may have to offer. Consistent heating is my biggest concern, how to get it right? I have heard a 40w bulb works, other ideas?
what are you using a wafer? I have link in my signature that can help

So I'll probably be setting eggs tomorrow and then again on the 11th. I'm I still able to compete in the best hatch rate contest?

So, I'm considering getting a sweeter heater for my coop for winter. I've read how it does not heat the air, but through infrared light, it only keeps the birds at their optimal heat. So does anyone use these in their coops over winter??
Just got the premier brooding plate...the small one. I also got the top. That old heat lamp always scared the bejesus out of me! The electric savings on the plate is a serious bonus!
How do you like it?
My day-old chicks are loving their Sweeter Heater... and so am I!!! I would never, ever use a heat lamp over combustible material. That's just asking for trouble!!!
How do you like the sweeter heater?? That's the one I'm thinking of getting.

The $47.00 dollar version is much better. http://www.premier1supplies.com/detail.php?prod_id=135875 If you brood more than a couple of times with them, they pay for themselves in energy costs.
How do you like this one?
