They're due today, I'm just used to having early hatches. I'm using a different hatcher this year though so I don't have the temps perfectly figured out yet lol. The fact that they're all still moving in the shells and that I may have heard a peep keeps me excited
I move mine depending on the action in the incubator and how active they are. If I get a break between pips and I have a pair, I'll move them. Sometimes it good to have one in there because it encourages the other eggs to hatch. Sometimes one can be very rambunctious and keep slamming eggs around and then I'll move them. It really depends on each hatch and how things are progressing. You have to do what your comfortable with and what's best for the hatch!
The cracked egg with the tape hatch totally unassisted while I was sleeping for 2 hours! I'm up to 3 out and 1 more pip that I can see. Going to move the hatched ones over so I can check the other eggs and make sure pips haven't rolled over!! So excited!!
My aunt just called me and she said I had a chick hatch sometime around 530 this morning..... I can't wait to get home and see it!!! I am on my way now!
Wish I could help. I have a chick with feet out in front too - more difficulty moving around. Worked a little harder to get out of the shell. Unsure if there may be an umbilical infection. If there is, it doesn't look like you can do much...supplement water
All stragglers are out now. Some had to be helped. Don't usually but they were shipped and did not want to loose any that could be helped.
So out of 18 shipped eggs 10 made it out. Not dry yet but out whew! 5 of 18 not fertile 3 were quitters. Really happy with results of shipped eggs.
Two of my extra eggs were Bresse 8 are Altsteirer at least that's what I think I saw there was a lot of flopping going on.
Of the eggs I put in from my birds the one Marans hatched the eleven lavender Orpington's were not fertile. On a positive note I'm starting to see some bull eyes on the yolk of the Orpington's now.
Good morning everyone and Happy New Year!
(I guess I forgot to wish it last night...I was so tired, I had my brain turned off I guess...lol)
I'm SO far behind...thought I better post and then go back and catch up!
UPDATE: One little OEGB last night...and 3 Easter Eggers out this morning. 3 are zipping and I see 2 more pips! Picture time!!
Little fellow to the left is the OEGB.
The guy in front with the red head...rooster! I'd bet money on it. My red's are always roosters.
The buff color's from one of the chicks I bought last summer. She's stopped laying at the moment but I'm really happy I have a chick from her!
Someone already posted, but make a brace from a rubber band, bandage or etc. Leave it on for a day or two and the joint will go back together. It is called spradle leg and you need to do this right away.
Is that baby spraddled? If when it walks, then yes, tape those little legs together for a day. Not too bad if it is spraddled. If it is walking on it's butt, it may just be the paddle walk. If it gets up and walks a bit with it's legs still apart like that, then lays back down..spraddle for sure.
Up to 7 pips!!! I am a bit concerned about one of them. I see a small blood spot where the chick pipped. I think it pipped through a vein. Will it be okay? The blood spot is rather tiny...
I have hatched 10 chicks total, but i gave 2 to a friend. can i post a picture of however many i have and then a separate picture of the 2 she has and still be in the running for the best hatch rate contest?
It depends on your incubator humidity and type. It will be faster at 60% humidity in a fan forced incubator. Do not leave them in longer than 24 hours and get them out if the are pestering the other eggs. It is also best to wait until you do not see pips if possible.
I moved the 3 to the brooder and candled the remaining eggs really quick and all the rest have internal pips!! I'm so so so happy! I thought maybe I lost them.
Good morning everyone! Happy New Year!! Congratulations on all the new chicks and pips!!
I have family watching my chicks. Last update, we had #4 hatch around 9 pm, and a new pip at 10. I havent heard from anyone yet today. I'm hoping for 3 more babies!!
