7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

No fair! It is 16 degrees f here and we have snow covering everything. It's gonna be 11 degrees tonight and the high tomorrow is supposed to be only 18 :barnie

That's good it's been raining there!

Oh my goodness! I thought 40 degrees was cold! I am glad it is raining here to. I hate the summers here, maybe it will cool down this year

Yeah I don't like super hot summers either.

It's funny cause I remember last fall when it was starting to get cold at night there was a 40 degree night and we were trying to cover all the delicate plants quickly (we have a vegetable "farm") and we were all wearing sweaters lol. Now that I'm used to the cold I only wear a sweater if it is below 32 degrees

. And I only wear shoes if it is below 15 degrees...

I remember those days. I think the "no shoes" thing is pretty much over for me. I did it the first week after the new year when I was away, and had to let the dog out. The icy sidewalk hurt.

Let my Seramas from the hatch a long outside today

They look very cute!

One day I too will use my small souffle for souffles and not watering chicks....

How did everyone's hatches go. I was offline for quite a while and I am about 700+ posts behind and it is going to take me forever to catch up. lol. My chicks are doing good, only got 4 quail from the hatch though and no ducks. I have had about 0% fertility on duck eggs at the moment. Although, I did just collect a double yoke duck egg today.

Here is a size comparison. The double yoke, regular duck egg, chicken egg, quail egg.
My hatch was good--I have 32 chicks!

Here in California, I have not slipped on ice this winter....

Yeah, but I haven't slipped on mud. :p

The worst is getting your irrigation boot stuck in the mud and your foot coming out...

Then trying to get the boot back on without falling into the mud....

That's happened to me back when I used to wear boots

and then when you finally get it out the other one is sometimes stuck

Chicks went to outdoor brooder yesterday. Our high today was 48F. I watched them for about 7 beers. I was surprised at how little they went under the heat plate.

Some of mine were out from under the plate in the garage. I was about 50 out there too!

I really love those brooder plates--The Premier1 more than the Brinsea. They do not use the brinsea plate much and all try to fit under the Permier1 plate.

They are so silly!
