7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

We are so sorry for your loss. I can see how this season could be a hard one for you. I know you've probably heard it a thousand times, dwell on those good memories. Life is good when when you remember the good, are grateful for that good, and when you share the good. I hope you find a store that has fertile eggs..Trader Joes near you anywhere? That seems to be the place everyone is finding them. I don't have one close by..thinking maybe that's a good thing..lol..I get fertile eggs from friends, and also will buy from e-bay. Good luck on your hunt. Remember to ask if the eggs are fertile where ever it is you decide to go. Would you be interested in eggs from someone on here? There are a lot of good folks that would love to send you some.

I try too she only live 6 minutes from me and my sisters and brother where there and I got a txt message telling me that she was in a fire and they where taking her off life support so I never got to say goodbye

Do you sell hatching eggs?

Wow! Already up to 33 pages! I want to hatch either this one or Easter or maybe both. I am thinking of hatching some James Marie quail for this one along with some of my Olive Eggers and maybe some Sapphires or Super Blues. For Easter I am going to try some more exotic eggs. I have a short list but I don't know yet what I will be getting. I do know I am going to get some mixed colored turkey eggs from Silkie Sensation. On chicken eggs, I am vacillating between Breda, Blue Egg Sumatra (Tony Marie's birds from Unv. of GA), Wheaten Blue Americanas, Olandsk Dwarf, Swedish Flower Hens, or maybe Niederheimers (I love Lemon Cuckoo). Then there is my promise to my pair of Buff American Ganders to try and hatch them some girls this year.

So my Fall/Winter indoor project is to replace the thermostat in my incubator. Try to rig the fan so it is not on contenously (I am thinking I want it to run for 15 minutes out of each hour). I am thinking about getting a reptile fogger to add humidity They have a large water reservor and a tube that I can run into a hole in the box. You never have to open the lid to refill water. This is a homemade incubator made from a cabinet. I want to take out the drawer panels and replace them with plexiglass so I can view inside without opening.

I figure if I come read this thread daily I will stay motivated and get things done.

Are all of the Marans like that? Broody a lot? :/

I missed a couple of days and am 20 pages behind.

I don't see how Ron does it.

For the last year I have been under the curse of the broodies. The white marans have been constantly broody. Just broke a Black CM last week. The blue coppers have been evilly broody too. At one time last summer I had 9 broodies, 7 were different varieties of Maran.

Only 1 EE went broody during all the madness. Right now I have a white Marans and a Welsummer sitting on eggs. At least I have gotten smarter about the eggs they are sitting on. My choice, not theirs!
I will be setting Isabelle Leghorn, Swedish Flower Hens and maybe some Isbar eggs for the NYD fun. At least the Leghorns and the Isbars won't go broody!
