7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

It is best to wait. I wanted to check them mostly because they are Store eggs. I would check shipped early too because I do not like seeping eggs. :sick

Candled tonight. Of the 18 shipped eggs 9 have something of veins. Nothing seeping. I need a better candler as this is what I usually see when candling I leave any that don't have veins. And more develope than I thought. Could be some shipped eggs are older and just not developed yet. They have something in them. What I see is nothing like what was just posted. My 12 were very similar looking. Also air space seemed nonexistent at this point. Humidity kept at 40-50%

Ok ok I candled. Can I have my arm back now?:lau

I've covered mine with blankets before but if it's only a couple eggs, I've used the bra... definitely keeps them warm, albeit a bit awkward lol. My husband just shakes his head and laughs at me when that happens.

Lol, I have done that too, mostly for baby quail though that are the only ones that hatch and refuse to stop cheeping unless carried around all day, and it is too hard to hold them in my hands.

Apparently, something fell off the transformer outside out house. We watched him put it back on with a super long lighted stick. The power is back on and the bators only went down to 90 degrees... Hooray!!!

So excited. I had almost forgotten about this HAL, but I set a run of test hatch bantam white faced black spanish and what I hope will end up blue bantam polish (I have a splash roo over white crested black hens). My silver laced polish aren't doing well at making fertilized eggs right now, so I didn't set any more of those for this run,

Awe, what a good daddy!

Yeah he seems like a very good daddy, he is only 6 months old though and this is his first baby

Wow, beautiful pigeons, the top ones kinda look like jacobin pigeons, bottom one looks like maybe a dragoon or homer...?

I haven't paid much attention to my pigeons for awhile. I try to keep them from hatching their eggs because I get too many pigeons. I believe the males do all the setting during the day and the females take the night shift with some trading off during the day. I had a male pigeon, who didn't have a mate, and he snuck a silkie chicken egg and hatched it all by himself! This summer, a couple even tried to sit on pea hen eggs! They are serious broodies!
That is what most of my pigeons do, but this pair the male is sitting at night and the female only sits for a few hours on and off during the day. She is a weird pigeon, before her "current husband" she was paired up with another female pigeon and they happily sat on infertile eggs. Thats cool your male hatched a chicken egg.

Well the chick had food on its head because the pigeon tried to feed it. I had to take it and raise it. Poor dad would have gone crazy once the chick started running around:)

My poor pigeons got so scared when the quail they had hatched started running around

My french blue maran eggs are solid brown and between the color of milk and semi sweet chocolate. Think chocolate pudding. The 2nd photo is from an egg laid today.top picture is same hen but day 8. I can see a yolk shadow place, but the shell is too dark and dense to see anything else.

I'm not touching any of the eggs again until next sunday/tuesday...days 12/14. It's just depressing! Lol.

So....my power just went out....you guys have been great in helping me so far but any suggestions on how to keep my bators warm?
I swear if these darn eggs hatch it will be a miracle! They were wiggling around about an hour ago so I really don't want to lose them.
