I haven't put any food in yet. I was going to introduce food when I moved them into the real brooder after they are drinking well inside. I attended a chick workshop last spring and they said pasty butt developed if food was introduced before the chicks were drinking well. I guess I'm not that concerned about eating right now because they just hatched and have the yolk-sac to nourish them for awhile

Here is my first cutie....




I have one silkie out that looks like it might be lavender

and a few zipping very slowly. I had several malpositioned chicks, not sure why, I lost a few already that didn't make it through the night

. I am hoping I end up with six or seven. I have one more Serama that I helped this morning that looks good.

Will you knit a little nest for each one of all our chicks? please...

There are many reasons that pasty butt can happen.

Sure! Actually, I don't knit, I found that cute thing in a drawer when I moved in here. The chicks seem to like it. That chick is in the kitty brooder right now,. That is, in my hand, under the cat to keep warm.

Sometimes I use puppy pads in the brooder and as liners for the dog beds...

We have this ice cream joint here that has been around since the 50's and STILL makes ALL their own icecream HOMEMADE THE OLD FASHIONED WAY!
The best!

I had a REAL Banana Split.
It was HUGE
By real I mean REAL icecream with Strawberry Chocolate and Vanilla icecream
NOT Vanilla icecream with flavored syrups

Legit, the real deal!

I never log off...I just keep the page up and it looks like I'm always lurking. I'm usually outside though

I can't keep up either, though this thread is easier than Sally's Hatching with Friends, which I try to stay part of....
