I have 3 eight week old chicks in a small house and run next to my main coop/run doing a slow see but don't touch integration. I also bought my wife two bunnies as a surprise but we wont get them until end of next week. (she has been asking for bunnies for months and I keep telling her how we can't have any more animals, yada yada yada... its killing me not to say anything)

Anyway, building the hutch before they arrive would give away the surprise so I was thinking I will just temporarily house them with the chicks (who will be 9wks old at that point) until the hutch is ready. Probably just for a few days, get bunnies next thursday and build hutch that weekend. The mini coop is a 3x4x4 converted play house with an attached 6x3x3 run, the girls sleep on a roost bar two feet up in the air far out of reach of bunnies and also have two roost bars in the run.

Will they be ok co-habitating for a few days like that? I'm thinking I'm not worried about the chicks attacking bunnies as the bunny brothers are just about full grown already and bigger than the chicks. The bunny brothers are super chill as they have been handled daily by kids for the past 2 months at a local farm that does "farm class" for kids so I'm hoping they will be gentle also?

If it goes south I have a 2x3x2' dog kennel I can stick the bunnies in and keep inside until hutch is ready. Or if you all think it would be better I'll just keep them separate from the get go?

separately, they will be outdoor bunnies but I have a little yappy dog (maltese-yorkie mix - morkie) who loves to chase wild bunnies in yard. Inside, the cat chases him... Will he be less likely to harrass them when in yard if he meets them inside the house through cage bars for a few days anyway?

Will all animals survive this? thanks for any thoughts.

I wouldn't. Both animals will be terrified and prone to erratic running because of the new situation. Plus they have different feed requirements. Pick up a small hutch or rabbit cage to temporarily house the bunnies. It will also help the bunnies adjust quicker without chicks running about.

Also supposedly rabbits can dig really impressively far distances overnight and would escape. I have seen complex plans for interconnected housing for hens and rabbits but it mostly involved letting the hens pick through the waste underneath a rabbit hutch.
