Is this 8-week old Cherry Egger (Red Star) possibly a cockerel instead of a pullet? Her tail feathers are becoming very long and pointed at the ends and drape down slightly as seen in some of the photos. When "she" walks around the yard with the others (five Barred Rocks that are the same age and four other Cherry Eggers one week younger), she tends to stand in a more upright position and seems to "keep watch" over the others. No crowing that I know of yet. I know that time will tell the truth, though!

(don't know if a picture of the leg would help, but I'll post it anyways)

I think the Cherry Egger (from Cackle Hatchery) is very similiar to a Red Star (I think they may be the same thing

).

But aren't red star cockerals white? So many hybrids, so confusing

I would think a cockeral at that age would have a much bigger comb.
I guess pullet

pullet...there are no hackle or saddle feathers that I can see...and at that age you should be able to see them pretty clearly.

I think the hybrid was a New Hampshire X Rhode Island Red cross, so I don't see how a rooster could be white (

I don't know a lot about hybrids). The full body pictures I got don't really show the back or hackle feathers too well, so I might get some more soon. Again, only time will tell!

If anyone has pictures of 8-week old (6-7 weeks too) Red Star pullets and cockerels, posting them would help with a comparison. :)
