I will try that next time we need to fill I started there, but with only a very small amount of water and it didn't take long before I needed to add more. Adding to the outer ring seemed to keep stable for longer so I've stuck with it.

You probably didn't add enough water initially.

I've only got the one incubator so these will be the only December chicks. I've got so many people asking me about chicks right now, that I'll be incubating nonstop for the next few months.
