8x8 Coop Building Diary!! *pictures* UPDATE on pg 7!

Just looked up Sacramento codes for when a permit is required.

"Projects that do not require a permit*
Unless within a design review or preservation district (or a historic landmark), a building permit is not required for:

•One story detached accessory buildings used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses, etc., providing the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet.
•Fences, other than masonry walls, under six feet in height.
•Retaining walls not over four feet in height measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall, unless supporting a surcharge.
•Platforms, walkways, and driveways not more than 30 inches above grade and not over any basement or story below.
•Painting, papering, and similar finish work."

So we are in the clear with an 8x8

Looking good!

$900 for a pole barn permit because somebody might turn it into habitable space ILLEGALLY later is absolute insanity. In our county, you can buy a shed and have it delivered without a permit but if you want to build the very same structure yourself, you must bring a drawing and pay $50! So, there are a great many sheds constructed quietly because if they don't see you building it, how will they ever prove you didn't buy it?

I am so happy with it

It will totally function for what I need, and it is really exactly what I wanted. I can walk about comfortably, and my girls will have LOTS of room! We should be finished up by this Sunday. Yesterday was REALLY foggy all day, so hopefully Sunday the fog will have gone elsewhere lol!

If we get a chance to paint it I am going to go with a forest green and white trim, to match the roof

and the window will have shutters once we are finished made from the plywood cutout hehe.

You can in most places in this country, as well. Placer County goes out of its way to fine people and charge insane amounts of money for ridiculous permits because, quite frankly, it is a sparsely populated foothills/mountain county that has a LOT of fires in the summer, so they have to pay for their fire services somehow. They have speed traps and will pull you over and make you pay a $250 fine for a blinker light (no fix-it ticket in Placer County).

While Placer County is by far one of the most amazing and beautiful places to live in California, because of how they treat/trap their citizens and fine them to death and charge insane rates for ridiculous permits, I couldn't live there.

Is your foreman a barred rock? Mine is too. Slave drivers aint they? Demand perfection and constant work from you. It makes them the best foreman though

Yes! She is a Barred Rock! Oh man it must be a breed thing. I LOVE them!!! HHandBasket and FarmerLew's Barred Rock is the same way!

But yep, Joon the Barred Rock is the absolute Foreman. Farmer Lew had to go through her for ANY changes, and he had to keep her updated on what he was doing at any given time. Joon kept good watch over the build! One of the above pictures is of her YELLING at us and her mouth is open LOL. Love them though, they are priceless! Or.. like 2.00 LOL!

And yeah

We are in NJ, the most corrupt state in the Union and they could care less if we house 100 chicks, as long as they do not get noise or smell complaints from the neighbors. It amazes me how some towns look the other way and some are over the top.
We put in an above ground pool some 4 years ago and since it was 80 feet back from the house we had to run conduit for the electric. According to code we needed to have an service outlet 10 feet from the outlet for the pool, meaning right in the middle of the yard. Variance to change it was more than the original permit. It only required a signature, and the cash of course!
Strange how some towns operate.
