I just lost my girl today. She was in ICU in the garage for nearly a month.
I had first noticed that she was lethargic, so I brought her in. That's when I discovered the prolapse. She stayed in a covered crate in the garage, with feed and water. She drank readily, but wouldn't eat. She was bathed, honeyed, and Preperation H'ed. On her own, she would eat what stink bugs she could find during her free range garage time, meal worms, crickets, finely chopped pears and hot dogs. She had even nibbled on available grass on the few occasions she was let outside, weather permitting. She had to be force fed grit and softened pellets with yogurt. It took at least two weeks for the prolapse to go back in. She hadn't produced an egg during the entire time in ICU, and had dropped a tremendous amount of weight.
Last night, she was out for her free range garage time. She nibbled on some chopped apple and pear and hot dog, and drank.
She was sleeping, I think, when I left for work at 5:15 this morning. My mother called early in the afternoon to tell me that she was laying with her head down, and wouldn't leave the crate. When I got home at 5 this afternoon, she was gone.
Even though the prolapse had gone back in, I don't know what may have been going on inside. I would think that maybe she was eggbound, and infection prevailed. I just don't know.
I don't mean to hijack this thread. I'm just saying that sometimes poop happens, and they don't make it.
