Hi all, we have had a heat wave here with temps in the 90s but a real feel of 100. Even tonight it still close to plus high humidity. My six pullets are roosting in their coop for the night but they are all panting heavily (especially the buff orpingtons) and some are holding their wings up and out. I have the two small side windows open and the two larger ones open. It still feels stifling hot in there, hotter than the outside temps (it's usually a bit cooler in there so I'm not sure what is up with that). I am not sure how to help them cool down. We added a giant bucket of ice in the corner. Is there anything else we can do? First time chicken owner with six 15 week old pullets. Have not encountered this problem yet. Thank you.

Oh boy...can you get a few pictures of your whole coop?
I am going to take a wild guess and say you do NOT have enough ventilation in there.

Please read this:
Chicken Coop Ventilation - Go Out There And Cut More Holes In Your Coop!
Thanks for sharing the ventilation article. I think you're right and we need better ventilation. The side windows and front windows are not cutting it. Do you think they will be alright for tonight based on their behavior? Should I temporarily put them in a temp. Setup in garage? Thank you.

Which ever allows you to sleep without worry tonight!

My husband thinks they will be fine and does not want them in the temporary garage setup but I'm worried. I never saw them leave their wings lifted like that before. Temp. Still reads 80 in there.

I would not move them.

Moving them will cause unnecessary stress.
