911 ER help with newly hatched chick.

do they want me to give this tiny chick a bath? actually put it in a cup of warm water?
Nope, umbilical is still open. ust run warm water over it, dry it w/ a soft towel or paper towel quickly put it back in the bator. If its still sticky after it dries then go over it with a soft toothbrush. after towel you can put some antibiotic on the umbilical as a preventative.

I prefer not to soak them, if you can get away with not doing it. Clearing around the face is most important. They usually will preen it off pretty quickly once they are in the brooder.

It died. Nothing for it but a cup of warm water. It was too much shock for the little guy. Got the gunk off but the shock was taking it before I could get it dry. so I killed it. best for it. Something was wrong with the abdomen too. Very distended and dark. Thank you all for your help this late at night. Well 2 of the 3 assisted chicks are fine. Just lost this one. I guess that's a good thing.
sigh,
Karen
