Me too! Mike was the first person I talked to when I was interested in TBHs on a bee forum...that was actually the very first internet forum I belonged to. All the other senior beeks wouldn't even discuss it with me, nor anything to do with raising bees all natural, but Mike helped me along and the TBH I eventually built was one from his design of cutting a plastic 55 gal. drum in half.

I love his site and especially the place where he posts his hive health certificates when he stopped treating for varroa mites. Very telling and rubs it right in the faces of all those folks who say you can't develop bees hygienic enough to resist the varroa mite naturally, no chemicals needed.

Can you still get honey from this hive?

Yes, you can still harvest honey, between 15 and 20 kg (30 to 40 lbs) without feeding sugar in the winter. Here we harvest around midsummer and we plant buckweat, late flowering sunflowers, Phacelia and Reseda nearby. So the bees have a good chance to collect enough honey for the winter.

OK new to bee keeping. Got excited a few weeks ago on a rabbit hunt because I found 3 bee hives. Thought wow that's cool. In talking to the owner of the property I learned that he wants to clear the place to put a trailer on it as a camp. (We live in buras Louisiana and it's common practice to trade we cut the field with our tractor to help the owners so long as we get to hunt the rabbits ) any way the old trailer on the prop got ruined by hurricane Katrina so it is full of bee's. So I bought a deep box set up from dadant and went with my husband and got one of the hives . It was so cool. Huge nuc of bee's and we found the queen. It had tons of honey but we didn't rob them we put all there combs in the boxes they way I read to and left them with the honey they worked so hard to make. This was yesterday. I have the bee's locked up as I read to do for the first 3 days so they don't leave. I put a feeder and I can see them eating it. Any advice would help. I want this to work. Please

dose this look right. I don't want them to get hurt or die. My husband and I have 5 acres I am trying to make it as homestead as possible. I have quail,pheasants, chickens, ducks, to . I really like the bee's and feel very comfortable with them. My husband not so much lol he thinks I'm crazy.
