A Bielefelder Thread !

Are sprigs something you can see now? I was going to count the points when the chicks are a few days old and the combs aren't squished from being in the egg. How many points should they have?
I have not been able to see the sprigs on my chicks when they're day olds.
4 - 6 points the cuts reaching half way into the comb.

Speaking of sprigs on their combs, i need to see a pic from a live chicken that shows that. I am not familiar with what that is. Can someone put up two pics, a good example and a bad please. I am trying to evauate my oldest pair at 4 mos.

I sure hate it that I am able to provide you with an example of a sprig! Sadly I cannot provide a picture of a "good" comb!

I have 9 new B-la-felders coming. I am getting 4 roos and hoping just one of them will have a good comb. I love my roo now very nice just hate the sprig.

awesome! and we get pictures?
I am on restriction currently chained to my desk until I get a painting done...or else !!!
But I will try & get photos tonight when I go out to close coops...I do not know wether I should root out the half-silver cuckoo half Biel hen and toss her out or leave her in there breeding back to her father is making silvery white marans !

A good comb, the last hunk is a big hunk...not a bunch of tiny points and he has no side sprigs either.
I don't think any in the 3 or 4 bloodlines I have gotten, have had any sprigs at all.

My Biels are 5 months old. The cockerel is very amorous, the hens are getting red and allowing his affections. Did I read somewhere on here..... no eggs for 30 or 40 weeks?
