DMRippy, what is your marketing? Do you have ad's on Craigslist, do you have a facebook page you promote, how do people know you have chicks for sale? We live 60 miles from Nashville and I have not known you had any Heritage Breed chicks for sale. Without aggressive marketing people will not know what you have for sale. If I only depended on what coops I sell locally, I would starve to death. We sell in a 5 state area and deliver for a fee. You have to make your products different than everybody else. Be creative and set your operation apart. Be specific in you ads, not general. Spell out exacty what breed and price with age sex, etc.. Every day for 2 weeks open up a new avenue of advertising. (free is good). Craigslist ads in at least 3 cities,, Facebook buy sell pages for your area, online marketplaces, newspapers, flyers at feed stores, etc.. It aint easy, but it can be done.

I have been doing this awhile. I don't advertise in 3 cities as I will not deliver a $20 chicken. I have FB pages and groups I post in. CL is my main source for juvies and adults. BYC is my mine way to sell hatching eggs. I put up ads in the Feed Stores. Just not a market for high dollar chickens in this area.

I am not complaining just stating facts. People want the REGULAR chickens and when you tell them the price they want to know is that EACH? LOL. Yes Mauve Eng Orpingtons are $100 each for a pullet....that goes over like a lead balloon.

I have limited knowledge but I follow this thread because I am wanting at some point to get some biels. If the major appeal to English orps is attractiveness and rarity, that may not go over as well in Tennessee as the bielefelders that will be great for meat and have been reported to have such a mild temperament. That is what appeals to me. Of course they are also quite attractive. DMRippy, I have really enjoyed the chicks I got from you, who are now laying pretty blue eggs.

I am in Maryland and the average price for day old Bieles is around $20-25. They are actually quite common in the DC/Maryland/VA area. Last year I could sell laying Bielefelder pullets for $45. But now I surprised if I get $30 each.

Maybe I should start selling In PA? I have 15 rare breeds and find the rare chicken market has become overrun with people trying to become rich off rare breeds. The irony is that while The price of Bieles is falling, I am actually raising the prices of my Ayam Cemani and Svart Hona for the Spring as demand is higher than what I can hatch. A day old Cemani goes for $300 each and I sell every single one.

Good! I was going to ask if that was a CCL that was eaten by the dog the other day but forgot LOL. My brain is fried with everything I have on my plate right now with the remodel.

Bummer about the price drop for chicks but $20 per chick is good $ to me. I don't limit myself to PA, I sell and ship eggs across the US. I don't know how long this gravy train will run but I'm jumping on for the ride. Beside the $, Biels are perfect for PA. Heavy breed that does well in the cold WInters.

I forgot to comment on the Ayam Cemani in regards to your post. I checked them out but to "gothic" for me but they are sure big bucks if you have the buyers.
