Beter pic of male would be nice

I have three males. He is more grey than the other two.

He is not very photogenic.





This is another one. He doesn't seem quite as light in person.




This is the third male. He is lighter in person. But, he has more of a stripe on his back than the others.


I am thinking that the second one is more likely to be a good male to breed, but I don't really intend to do anything more than breed these for my backyard.

I am curious, though. The breeder has 2 males and 7 females. Will I be able to breed these for a while without getting in new blood? Or should I get some new blood right away?

All Bielefelder are from the same gene pool from Greenfire. So at some point we will all need a new line. Greenfire historically brings in new lines periodically. You should be good for a while as long as you cull for defects. Everyone once in a while you may want to purchase some directly from Greenfire to go back to the original source. But if you do, keep track of which ones are the originals.

Just saying...up here in Canada, I got my eggs from a combined breeding from Greenfire's line & another European import. Seen these birds when picking up my eggs in person. Big, gorgeous birds! The breeder & I noted that the European birds have that nice, solid, rectangular shape to them. I can't wait for mine to hatch...long way to go yet. Day 3 today.

Take the time to learn to sex by eyeliner. Females should have clear distinct eyeliners. Males should have it broken or fuzzy. This is caused by the single and double barring. Sometimes the chipmunk stripe is really hard to tell.

In theory, crossing a Legbar roo with a Bielefelder hen should produce a nice green egg. I am thinking about doing the same cross. It should also maintain the autosexing. But I need to verify that with actual hatches. In theory, you can take any -bar autosexing breed and the offspring should retain the autosexing genes. The one exception would be the Isbar, because the blue color messes that up.
