A Bielefelder Thread !

My girl is still laying. I've gotten 11 eggs from the 10th-27th. I hope she keeps it up, getting like 4 eggs a week. The others still don't look they are going to lay yet, i guess this one is going to be like the boss hen. She seems to have more of an attitude towards the others now, she will walk up to them and give them a small peck and then walk off casually. The rooster likes her more to, because she is the only one who squats for him.

BEAUTIFUL eggs! Congrats - you've got at least one winner there!!!

Has anyone ever had a broody bielefelder, and how often would you say they go broody? I'm letting them do their natural thing. Out of five im thinking one will go broody at least once. If they don't hatch any eggs next year, then i will just have to buy one of those small 10 egg incubators, i would rather them do it naturally though.

We have had 13 bielefelder hens and none ever went broody. I haven't heard of anyone having a broody bielefelder now that I think of it.

We had a silkie hen who wanted to steal everyone's eggs and even our Swedish Black Hen went broody and hatched out one of her chicks.

Curious to see if anyone has experienced broody hens with this breed

I guess i should start saving for that incubator just in case, i hope they haven't had broodiness bred out.

Seems someone posted a few months ago they had a Biele go broody but don't remember who.

I went back and looked and i can't find anyone that had a broody biele, there was a lot of talk about if they went broody or not though. I found your earlier post about your 5 month biele pullet that started laying, did she ever stop laying and start again?

Maybe it was a figment of my imagination or my memory is mistaken.

I don't know which pullet of mine started laying first. I have ten and don't have them separated or marked. So don't know if she took a break or not.
I do know I was getting sometimes up to 8 eggs a day for a while and then suddenly and dramatically dropped over a month ago to 2-4 or so a day.
Maybe their laying schedules changed from all laying everyday to different days. They are only about 9 months and fall is coming on so that may be what's going on.
I really don't know.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I swear I remember someone saying they had one go broody though.

I did a search on the thread and found this post.

Bine may know more on broodiness of Bieles but don't recall him/her mentioning it.

Thanks for the reply, its plenty of help. It's possible im the one who missed a post, I did just search this thread from "broody, broodiness" and then i read the post that showed up. I'm to lazy to go read all of the hundreds of posts. There are a lot of cute pictures though in this thread though, just on the ones i did read. When i get a day off ill probably spend hours going back and reading through this thread, I've only read like 1/4 of the posts.. So i might still find it

Thank you to everyone for all the kind words after the loss of our roo. We will definitely be looking for fertile Biele eggs in the spring. The main reason we wanted to try Bieles was b/c of all the great things we heard about the roos (& well the auto-sexing is awesome). The hatch rate was 100%! We got 6 females & only 2 males. We sold 1/2 right away & fell in love with our sweet boy. He truly was as terrific as people say. I found a home for our females so we can lighten the flock for the winter. Our daughter is already planning out a new science project for 2016. Of course it involves hatching more eggs.
