LOL----Throw that book in the trash---that's Not true. Once you set a hen and she hatches her chicks---she might stay another day----if you allowed other eggs to get added to her nest---once the chicks hatch----she might set there trying to hatch the others for a day or two longer---But after that """"MOST""" leave the nest to take care of them.

As I stated in the above post(#17)---if you waited 2 weeks or so before you set her----she might set there for 3 more weeks if she is a die-hard broody. Good Chance but I personally would not wait that long to set her and If I did set her that late I would Make sure she was healthy and not put expensive eggs under her.
They aren't just farm eggs from a friend of I'd known I would have left her to set I haven't had one God broody before and totally missed the signs. So far so good I am waiting patiently. Just went to check on her and asked ( yep I'm one of them) how many eggs she's setting and she growled at me. Figure that's still a good sign right?

I do not remember (I post so much) if your broody is with other hens or by herself----if she is with others make sure you have the "set" eggs marked good and remove any unmarked eggs daily----even if it means wearing thick gloves and a Coat sleeve!

he is serious about the gloves , really ;) ... Small update about the broody ? She was back to laying but even in the cage , which I had also hung above the ground now , she went flat on the egg she laid and kept going like that , removed the egg , same story , acting like she was on a clutch ... now even have another issue , almost entire flock broody ! the only smart ones are the leghorn , they aren't broody , the rest is , even the free ranged ones have their hidingspots and those are even more determined ! Problem is lots of them are on a for sale ! they would immediately buy themselfs a broody and get no eggs if they keep it up :( . BUT good news , one broody seems to give it up slowly ! working on it

OOPS, I forgot to mention on "My" broody breaker hanging cages---the eggs roll out. That might be important on some hens---LOL. I would have to up-load a pic if anyone wants to see it.

Lol yea she don't seem to mind when we take the fresh eggs from her. I have just never seen a hen set on 13 eggs and then roll out two for two new ones. She's been good the past couple of days so now it's just a waiting game.

I vote for a picture ! :D I've taken her out again now and she did act normal but my ROO DIDNT !!!! he was busy building a nest !!! is he gay ??? guess who was constantly talking against my straight-gay roo ;) uhu , cage ? oh sure put me in I'm out in a few days anyway and the roo keeps my eggs warm , what an idiot ! lol !!! He indeed went to set on the eggs muhahaha , two minutes later another hen , yup another nest to build and meanwhile back to the eggs and back to the hen for the nest ROFL , I left it for today just and only to watch the funny stuff ! really somewhat cute yet annoying because if I want to touch the eggs ? oh dear , now they are all roo's and he is a he she ! protective , really wow ! I'm worried I'm gonna just have to let it be , I did plan a hatch anyway so I think , they can just manage themselves and if it fails , well then its later on the year because at this point I don't have the time for it actually but some fresh blood is needed since I found the cause in the peckingorder issues ( posted it somewhere in managing the flock or in egglaying because it got that bad a hen became eggbound ) . Reasonn why they pecked eachother so bad ? they were all sick and many of them were not to be saved anymore or would have costed too much , it was some kind of caugh and snotty noses but I never saw them having that untill yesterday eve ; the sick ones were all sneezing, caughing , and those were the ones that got being pushed away , so in fact I lost almost ALL of them but I keep holding on on the ones that get preventive treatments and are vital , so if they wanna be broody ? fine , if not , also fine , I'm not going to try to stimulate that .

I do not really know why I post this as it is totally not relevant nor do I like to share any feelings but ... I bursted out in laughin first when my rooster was building the girls nests and kept the eggs warm yet I cried my eyes out too , it touched me actually , certainly because many of the flock had to be culled an a few are a big questionmark in surviving ... I see them just as my chickens really yet I know they have feelings too and in some way wether you now like it or not , it is not just a habit or a hobby but you get attached to them in some way ... so that roo being so involved , just looking like a small family as we as humans usually are ? that really got me warm today .... just skip this post :)

Its OK. I never freezer camp any of mine----not that I am to soft---I process my hogs and rabbits with no problem. I just Sell the Chickens----I can sell one hen and go buy 3 chickens ready for the freezer from the grocery store. I know they do not taste as good, but I been raised on the store chickens and they sure taste good to me---LOL
