A BYC CHANGE OVER REALITY. All need to read.

Just wanted to say:

I LOVE the new BYC! Thank you so much for your time and effort!

Hoping someone here might be able to offer some help!

I've been talking to fellow BYCer by email since the migration and she's been having a considerable amount of trouble getting in from the only computer she has access to all day. The problem started with her not being able to see drop downs from the main menu, like if she she rolled over "Forum" up at the top, nothing would happen. It has continually gotten worse.
We've verified Java Script is enabled, she has run a clean up (with Microsoft essentials/ advancce care) and defrag, and also has rebooted. Also verified she's using the newest version of Google Chrome and also Firefox. Chrome will let her log in, but with broken photo links for everything including avatars and can not post or change settings or do anything that requires interaction. On Firefox, she cannot do the forum but can see pictures, not on page one but all the other pages show up. She's having a considerable amount of issues that won't even let her get in to post this.

It was suggested to check for an ad block. Any info on how to check that or other helpful suggestions I can pass along? I know she would greatly appreciate it!

I am using Google Chrome with no problems on this site. Had some problems yesterday with facebook images not showing up though. Does she have adobe shockwave or other flash players besides Java? If she doesn't have adobe I would suggest trying that. Her graphic drivers might need to be updated also or the rest of the computer.

I also have to add that I love the look of the new site. It looks clean, clear, and bright which I like. I don't use a lot of features other members use on the site so it was an easy adjustment for me.

Took a couple minutes to realize that threads I have posted in where a different shade of blue instead of the dot beside the thread. A darker shade of blue or a shade of yellow might make them more noticeable. The side ads are a little distracting mainly since they don't run the full length down the page but I can live with it.

For those that don't like the change think of it as when you got your first poultry or even a baby. It's a new change in your life that you have to make adjustments to and is a big learning experience. Once you get use to the change then it becomes familiar and easier.

The way the owners/moderators have stated the old site was coming apart at the seams reminds me of a toddler still in diapers and not potty trained. A toddler still in diapers is going to run the parents into more and more money for diapers till they put their foot down and potty train the child. If the owners/moderators didn't put their foot down and make a change then it was going to cost them closing down the site due to it crashing. Same way with dieting or trying to quit smoking. If you don't make a big change it will cost you in the long run.

x2 by the way I like the way you can choose single quotes Like I did here or double quotes to include the original...... Oh and for those who want to spell check CTRL right click does the job Yayy....

I haven't posted my thoughts of the change over because if you have any issues you are made to feel like a "complainer", or "rabble-rouser", or a few unpublishable names. I've spent time looking through it, I've had problems, I won't be on as much because it takes me too long to get where I want to be and I'm not a tech-savvy person. But I'll tell you what, I'm not a complainer, and I'm not stirring up trouble, and if a FEW of you can't get through your heads that some are going to have trouble, and some will leave because of it, then that is your problem. Lay off the negative statements and stop running down those having trouble.

I, too, am tired of the negative statements directed at those of us having problems.

Ad blockers are readily available. I Googled "ad blocker" and it brought up one for Chrome, one for Firefox, and one that didn't specify the browser, all free downloads, just in the first 3 results.

I hate that she's having such problems and wish I was geek enough to help. I've seen posts that describe things to try -- clean the cache, defrag, run a registry cleaner -- I don't know much of anything about this stuff, though.

Just got done reading this thread- Way too long, lol
I'm pretty much good with everything here, and like a lot of it.

As Rob can attest I am sometimes "challenged" with computers, but I figure it out, and mostly enjoy the win.

What's funny is that I'm the go to guy when someone has trouble doing something on the computer, at work. Got'em fooled, don't I?

I do want to mention one difficulty I am having.
It is the small font size. I know some of you are not seeing it. (Like I don't see the bright white)
I have been thinking about it and may have a clue.

On the old BYC I could set my screen zoom to 180% and the forum fit the screen. Easy to read whether or not I was sitting up, leaning back, slouching etc.

I should add that I have 20/20 vision, but am starting down the road to old person eyes. I use the mildest reading glasses made for reading small print/font.

Here I can only increase the zoom to 125%, otherwise the last 7 posts on every page are cut off. This means I have to wear the glasses, which mean that I have to still up straight at all times keeping my eyes 18-20 inches from the screen. Otherwise everything gets just a little fuzzy. Not very comfortable for long. It's even harder when I'm tired like after work.
I have gone up to the first 3 posts on the page, and with the forum width there; I can zoom way past 200%.
I would like to see the font made larger, and maybe the solution is to run that right sidebar the full length of the page.

I really hope something can be done to make BYC readable.

Thanks,

Imp

I use RockMelt 99% of the time so I guess I'll do without the 'drop down' menus.

This place is still better than the old place.. once I figure out how to use the photos that were transferred over.

Give me time. I'm old.
