Thanks Ralph, I feel better. I can always put them back in if they're acting too cold I guess. I just worry about the 3 dummies that revise to stay in the run. They fly out and then pace the fence acting like they want back in and like they're freezing lol

Kids are already scheduled for a 2 hour delay tomorrow. It said 2-4 inches of snow along with our cold, starting at 1 am. Hmm, doesn't sound like fun and I know I'll have to plow tomorrow. We haven't plowed up the driveway yet from the couple inches we got before. Hubby accidentally poked a hole in the oil pan on the bottom of the tractor taking off the most deck :/ He just patched the hole yesterday and replaced the oil today but the battery was dead. Yay (sarcasm).

And Stephcraig I'm originally from St. Louis and have a historic house in Ste. Genevieve. I show dogs and am over at Grey Summit a lot. Now here is the wacky forecast for us....Saturday's high will be 71, then it drops over 40 degrees and our high Sunday will be 30. AND one of these days Feedman will breed me the Narri of my dreams!

Wow that's awesome guys! Yes I'm from rolla born and raised. Have family from licking/Houston area ralphie. They used to own the feed store in licking. Spent a few years in St. Charles but moved back home to the country. Yeah our forecast is pretty wild for this weekend. So you guys think my birds will be ok since they are in a pen that has boards around it blocking almost all wind and a roof? Not insulated though. Thick layer of straw on ground and in their house. It has a small turkey sized door without a flap covering it but it always feels way warmer in there than outside. Has straw in it as well. The turkeys usually sleep on the outside roost pole instead of going inside house. Tonight it looked like their legs were shivering a little while I was feeding and watering them. Like I said before I'm just new at all this and I just can't imagine being outside in the cold like they are. So I thought you all could give the best advice. My local feed store saw my questions as a chance to sell a bunch of crap- heated waterer, fancy heat lamps and heated blanket/pads and any other thing they could come up with related to cold weather. Oh also should there be any change in diet during winter? Feeding laying pellets and cracked corn normally. Plus meal worms as snack.

I've heard of a lot of people who switch to grower feed for extra protien over the winter. I feed it year round.

I must do it backwards. I feed more corn to increase the carbs during the cold. I figured converting starches to sugar for energy would be easier than converting protein and cheaper.
