I am hatching, Memphis.

I sat 8 eggs a week ago. I candled last night and at least 5 are fertile, including the two that I believe were laid by Strawberry, who got taken by a hawk. I wasn't sure if she was laying the ones that were more green, or the more blue ones, so I sat them all. I have since figured out that as I am still getting the blue eggs, but no more green ones, then the green ones must have been Strawberry's. Unless the cream Legbar was laying those and she decided to start hiding them. She has done that before. And her eggs were green, too, so I guess I'll never know unless there is some distinguishing feature about the chicks when they hatch.

Here is a short video I took this afternoon. I had just gotten home and the Royal Palms decided to do their thing and sneak up on me.

You will see JJ come in between them and me. JJ will herd them away from me, and they will make anther attempt, watch JJ protect me.

This goes on all the time when I am outside.


Also 2 turkey eggs today, but one of them was from Snitch.

I am not ready, I have so much to do and the hens have all become Ladies in Red"".

I think I am going to get the pens put together each morning and I get so busy, I can't get to it. I need a free hired hand or two....

I know what you mean. Its hard to get everything done you want to get done un a day. There just isnt enough hours in a day.

Wow Ralph...JJ is something else. And he only protects you? And leaves Judy to fend off the pesty palms herself? Yet something else interesting about turkey behavior.

Turkey behavior is so intriguing. Seems I'm always learning something new about them.

And yet again....somethings up with those palms!!

I had to laugh about the hen hitting the ground in the middle of it all!

I did not even notice that until Holm pointed it out. I have some many hens "walking the street looking for a man" it is disgusting. I am so far from ready for it this year. I thought I would be ready this year, but alas I am not...




Memphis after seeing the video as short and poor as it is, how else can you interpret JJ actions? I am hoping r2elk weighs in on this as he is by far the most experienced of any of us...


To me it seems to be the same actions I see Sidekick take when Toms come to close to JJ. I must be the head Tom, which also explains all the hens dropping to the ground around me....I am thinking I might bring a Tom into the pole barn to visit Snitch.
