I just talked to Coffee, she has a hen she had to put down yesterday.

She thought the guineas killed it or injured it to the point she put it down.

In looking at the pictures I think her young Tom loved it to death..

Any thoughts? Picture coming in next post. The feathers from the neck to the tail were removed..

Jeez Ralphie that poor girl! I dont think thats the work of a guinea. I agree about the young tom. But its so hard to tell. Maybe a combination of the two?

I told her to lock her young tom up, for now, once first blood is drawn, anything would peck at it.

I feel sorry for Coffee, and the hen. Betting it was the tom. At least the initial injury. What a bummer.

It looks like the result of a tom trying to breed a dead or dying hen. My suspicions are that the hen was injured by a predator and the tom came upon the injured hen that couldn't get up or resist or cooperate with his advances. It is possible that the tom caused all of the injuries but there is no way to know for sure.

Depends on the tom lol. Some really like to breed and others are to kind to take any chance they get.

Well I have 1 tom and 8 hens haven't seen any action yet this year but didn't know if 8 was too many for him to cover.
