Hi I'm new to turkeys also and the others are experts for the advice. But I just have to say my 2 were hatched by a chickens and they have fitted in nicely with my flock. Chickens don't know age just size and they will have their own pecking order. I do give mine a shed each but Delilah chooses to roost with the chickens. And my rooster quite often bully's my fully grown Tom. sure the others will answer your question better.

I keep mine in the same coops too, I even have roosters in with my turkey hens right now, I remove them if I want the toms to spend the night. I needed a place to put the rooster where they could not get n trouble.

I always raise turkey poults and chicks together. they do fine.

So far, I've raised chickens, turkeys and ducks (sorry ralphie) together. In my winter housing, I've separated the two chicken breeds, the toms and extra roos and ducks. I'm using my duck pen as the hotel suite for breeding my turkeys.

DEFINITELY future lappers The little dark one WAS pecking at the keyboard but when I turned on the camera, she came running back to my lap full speed, crying lol. It took a minute for her to realize that it was safe to check it out again.

Have you named the darker one? Any idea who the parents are?

Not yet, no. I need to come up with one. The only thing I know about the parents right now is they carry the red gene so it had to be either Sweet Pea, Eve, Mary, or Adam.

I set 10 turkey eggs this morning.

While I was working on the pens 3 of my hens are in the doghouses. Hopefully laying not just trying get out of the rain.

The red bronze hen maybe? Was finally able to get her in a pen with my red slate tom. She is crazy as a loon.

Now the questions. Does anyone have a turkey that even as an adult still boggles your mind as to its gender.
About the ???

Feathers up the back of neck to head.
Head is shaped like a hen.
Has spur bumps. Has a beard.
Has semi over developed wattles if it's a hen.
Breast feather are not Buff tipped that I can tell.

From a distance in the sun looks like a wild jake with the color sheen on its feathers.
Have never seen it strut or gobble. Or do any noises other that putt and run.
No eggs i know of yet.

And watched her put a smackdown butt whooping on a 2.5 year old tom.

So unless I get an egg or it gobbles this one will keep me guessing.

How old is the hen in question? I call it a hen because hens definitely get spur bumps and they definitely get beards and they can FOR SURE put a butt whooping on a tom if they decide they are really going to go for it.

If it isnt gobbling and its over 6 months I would say hen for sure.
