A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

LOL ,, I was trying to think of a nice way to tell him this.....

I got 2 RP eggs finally.

I have two Blue Slate hens that are now laying regularly.

The bearded Blue Slate hen that I put with the Sweetgrass tom was doing an admirable imitation of @memphis Annie. She wanted in with the Self Blue tom and didn't want anything to do with the Sweetgrass tom and he appeared to not want anything to do with her either.

She was constantly hollering all day long and continuously offering herself to the Self Blue tom (fence between them). She finally submitted to the Sweetgrass tom yesterday. All quiet now. I witnessed the confirmed breeding ( no "peeping") and then five minutes later he took care of her again. This mating is supposed to produce Tri-color Mottled Blacks and Tri-color Mottled Slates.

LOL! I almost choked on my coffee....

Good morning everyone.

@R2elkThose sound like they will be nice looking poults.

Well, I just had a near disaster with Ralphie's eggs! I THINK they will be OK...

My Stealthbator (homemade mini fridge) has been holding its temps so steady, that I decided to let Ralphie's eggs stay in there, along with a couple other hatches of my own eggs. And I've just been running a batch of my own in the new Genesis 1588 as a test run of that. Well this morning the temp spiked up to 108 for maybe an hour!

The SB has an STC1000 controller on it that has been great in the past. But I noticed it has been running cool lately, albeit very steady. I had it set for 38.1 and it was holding a great 99 -100F (Per my other thermometers) This morning it was only 98, so I upped the setting about 0.2C. An hour later I checked it, and the temp was 108, and the STC said it was set in the mid 40s! I honestly thought I only bumped it up by 0.2, but maybe not? Or else there is a glitch. It is now set for 37.5C, but my thermometers are reading 109 -110! Must be an STC failure.

Anyway, I rescued all the eggs out of there and moved them to the Genesis. I candled them all, and there is a lot of movement in the ones I can see through the shells. The darker ones look fine too, I just didn't see actual movement. So the spike didn't kill them yet, although I suppose if the damage is done, it could affect them in the coming days. Fingers crossed that they will live.

Oh, and Ralphie's eggs still had one clear and one blood ring like before when I candled them at 7 days, but now one of the repaired cracks looks like it quit early, and I'm pretty positive the CL egg died long ago too. :(
But I will leave them in until there is no hope left at all. I still have hopes for 8 SS though, if this temp spike didn't harm them.

Edited, because after I posted it, I realized I wrote the facts incorrectly.

Well, I really mixed it up today... Apparently my four breeders this year are the top four in the pecking order (who knew?). The RP and Bourbon were returned to the bachelor pad today and the Narri and spanish got to move into the hotel suites. Both the spanish and the narri attacked the fence trying to get in on the fight and it went on for nearly an hour before the RP Reestablished his position as the TOP tom and the bourbon took the number two spot. After it calmed down, the two new boys in their respective hotel suites were sportin white and blue colors...

Finnie only three of the chicken eggs hatched. None of the turkey. Two of the chicks had there intestine on the outside of the body. It was NOT an incompletely absorbed yolk. I've had this happen once before. I'm fairly certain its from temps being to high. One chick was normal. It was added to the flock
