A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Invariably every couple of weeks some goober will stop and ask about the turkeys or chickens. Today was goober day.

So,goober wants to know if any are for sale. No goober, hence the lack of a "For Sale Sign". Well,If YOU DID,how much would they be. Once again goober, they ARE NOT FOR SALE. BUT... I do NOT sale my ADULT BIRDS. Goober is dense... Do you sale eggs? Yes. $2.50 a dozen. Goober tells me the store sales for 99 cents. After working 14hrs,my patience is nonexistent... Goober,it takes 6 to 7 months to get the first egg. I pay 14$ for 50# of feed. 50# last two days. Goober is dumbfounded. Why would I waste money when chicken, eggs and turkey are so cheap at the store. At this point I went full on bipolar,OCD crazy. Goober left at a run, spun the tires and drove away in a puff of smoke.

Hello you turkey experts.
I'm hoping you can give me some feedback.
My 4 hens have just started laying for the first time.
Its been between 1 to 3 weeks
I want to incubate some of their eggs.
How long should I wait?
Do their eggs get bigger fairly quick?
I have two jakes, they all turn 1 on the 24th.

Thanks
Debbie

I would start saving them now and set them all. I set all my girl's eggs from the first ones they laid and all have been fertile. They've been hatching as happy and healthy little poults :)

Took a double dose of my happy pills, still fuming.

Some people just don't get it. I doubt you'll see THAT goober again!

I have one person at my work who has a second job at Walmart. Whenever someone comes to pick up some eggs from me (3$ a dozen) she always loudly announces that Walmart eggs are way cheaper and mine are expensive. Something about golden eggs and all that. I say, well, you can eat your cheap factory farm eggs if you want, this is how much mine are, so take it or leave it. It's just annoying she's always telling everyone how I'm too expensive for not matching factory prices, especially when we all know that they are subsidized.

Is it my Mother or an aunt of mine?

They are always telling people my eggs are too expensive at $2.50 a dozen...

My aunt wanted some the other day and I said I did not have any. She saw my shelves full of eggs in cartons. She asked about them.

I said they were hatching eggs...

She replied " that's ok I can eat them?"

I said " sure you can just fork over the 20 bucks for a dozen"..

The tirade that followed is not printable here...... after that she said

They can't all cost $20 a dozen..

I said" you're right some are more these are $100 a dozen, pointing to the white legbar eggs."

Again, unprintable response, then she left unhappy with me and life....

Tell them you know someone selling turkey eggs for 3 bucks a piece to a baker. I just give away my chicken eggs. My family, chicken sitter, few close friends....I don't have a large flock....actually need to add a couple new girls. My flock is aging. My old SS are still pumping out a few a week. I have a 5 year old Barnvelder still consistently laying too.

If someone said that, I reply that anything non-perishable is a much better deal on Amazon than at Walmart, and that I've stopped going to Walmart because Amazon has everything Walmart has, for less money. If she thinks the current "race to the bottom" is a good thing, then she won't have a job even at Walmart if that works to it's logical conclusion.

Some people want cheap, that's OK, that can go be my competitor's problem, they won't spend enough with them to pay for all the hassles they cause.

Its aggravating to say the least. I'm not fond of uninvited goobers on the best of days. And I always have issues when someone tries to talk down something THEY WANT FROM ME. Really gets me in a mood to go collect all the Beware of alligator signs
