A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

wow! I have no idea how to use that thing!!
Go to the individual color variety or go to Phenotypes and Genotypes to get the proper color genes. Go to the Turkey Color Calculator and change only the color genes for the color variety that you are looking at. Leave all the other genes as is. If you have entered the color genes correctly from their drop down menus it will say it is the color that you were trying to input. Do this for both the tom and the hen and click on Calculate Cross. I like to uncheck the Hide Genotypes button before clicking on Calculate Cross.

If you have a Royal Palm tom (b1b1 cgcg nn) and a Bourbon Red hen (rr), the female offspring will all be Golden Narragansett (split to Black Winged Bronze) and the males will all be Red Bronze (split to Black Winged Bronze and split to Narragansett) Because the Narragansett color gene is a sex linked gene, hens can only have one copy of the (n) gene and cannot pass it on to their daughters.

If the Bourbon Red is the tom and the Royal Palm is the hen, All of the offspring will be Red Bronze with the females split to Black Winged Bronze and the males split to Black Winged Bronze and Narragansett.

The split to means that they are carrying those hidden recessive color genes.

so these are what they could be:
the female offspring will all be Golden Narragansett (split to Black Winged Bronze) and the males will all be Red Bronze (split to Black Winged Bronze and split to Narragansett)

Red Bronze with the females split to Black Winged Bronze and the males split to Black Winged Bronze and Narragansett

 i recommend not asking ralphie how inept i am at trying to figure out colors or even telling breeds of chickens apart

:wee
I cant wait to see what they look like!!!

DwayneNLiz....one of our favorite pastimes is "Guess the Variety"!

Our power is finally on. Whew! Don't mind not having TV. Have a battery radio & NPR is quite entertaining. And I got to catch up on my reading ( John Adams) but man...this heat & humidity just takes it out of me. And Daisy is a happy bird now that her box fan is running!

@memphis Good for you. Once I get back to work, I'm going to buy a whole house generator. I fear I've lost most of my hatch because of the power outage. As I candled prior to putting the eggs into lock down I had a lot of what looked like late term death. I'm still learning when it comes to candling--but so far I've been within one or two eggs of predicting the outcome correctly.

@DwayneNLiz R2 has a habit of hurting my brain... He is what appears to be the goto guy for bird genetics.

The Expert and Go To guy for Turkey Color genetics is Kevin Porter of Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys.

I have not made any effort to learn chicken color genetics but I do have a fair knowledge when it comes to Guinea color genetics.

Thanks for clarifying. You're still way smarter than I am on this stuff. So I do consider you my goto guy. Sorry... :highfive:
