A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

So today I learned that my turkey poults will talk to me if I imitate them. Do any of you guys know what the different sounds mean? Are they any good sources for interpreting?

You just have to watch, listen, study, and learn. Eventually, you get a pretty good idea of what they're thinking and saying :)

That poor chicken. That was funny!
Ann...Aurora is right. Turkeys are wonderful communicators. The more time you spend with them the more you'll understand them. Mine have picked up on phrases. When I ask them if they "Wanna go for a walk" , they head to the gate. They know their names. And they know "Let's Go", when they are grazing out front they start heading down the driveway go their yard. Like dogs, be consistant with your commands and follow through with an action. They will put it together. But then again, I spend a lot of time with working with them.

Turd bird.

Turkey's are never shy about expressing their opinions and yes it takes time to figure out their different sounds.

Gotta love it when they help

Yea. cletis the poor tom we got. His is give me my watermelon now maman! Now. Now. Now. Do not put it out for those littles first even though if you dont they follow you to my piece and i walk away from it. I wants mineeeeeee. Then he purrs at me. But still doesnt trust us enough for any kind of touchin. Although he lets us get closer now and doesnt freak out like he was doin. So progress. :). I just wonder if he will ever decide he can breed our girls and it be safe to do so. Poor dude. We have only had him a month and he has wry neck so i dunno if he will ever try. He had been abused badly by other toms and the owner was a dumb dolt! So even if he never does decide to breed the girls that is ok! He knows he is safe and happy here and that is all that matters to us.

Today was the official day for the tweens to meet the teens and adults. So I hung out in the pasture for quite a while just observing. My adults were surrounding me and all of a sudden one of the teens decides to perch on my shoulder. As she's sitting there cooing, my adult hen yells at her, she back talks of course, the the toms started in on her. After which she flew off and went back to playing with the other teens.:celebrate:celebrate

Well I'm not sure what kind of worm it was. It sort of looks like the round worm and cecal but also like a small tape worm. So the poult with crop issues is totally back to normal. Took 3 times of draining crop contents. But he's normal looking and very much more active now. So I guess my big question is what is the best broad spectrum de wormer? I wanna do all my birds at same time and retreat as directed for the one I know has infestation. Please give me your favorites and if possible the prices reasonable. Thank you all for your help with all our buddy troubles!! By the way we are fairly sure it's a tom. He hasn't gobbled but he struts for the big hens and has even hopped on ones back like he is trying to mate. Guess I'll wait and see for sure. But keeping fingers crossed.
