A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

At least we have company in our misery.....not one chicken left the coop today..the 5 toms were out for maybe an hour total.

Ugly ugly day!!!
Even my guineas have gotten so used to the snow that they were all out stomping around in it. However the farthest the turkeys got from the run was 10' and then right straight back in. It is currently 17°F and did get all the way up to 33°F today with the sun shining. It would have been nice if the wind had ever stopped blowing.

I do live in the banana belt..however, the bananas are slightly blighted and darkened today.....BUT they make great hammers in these conditions.
I heard they shatter very easily when frozen. Speaking of banana belt my home grown pineapple was delicious.

Wow. R2elk, did you grow that in the house or your greenhouse? Did you start it from another plant? Will that plant fruit again? Sorry...intrigued...
I realize I have no business complaining about our wimpy winter. My turkeys really enjoy it. I did brave 40 degree weather and took them for a bedtime stroll. They got silly hopping & flapping around the front yard. Two neighbors driving by pulled over to watch. They do bring a smile to the neighbors.

I started it from the top of another pineapple. It would spend the winter in the house and the summer either outside or in the greenhouse. It got so big that I could not see the TV through it so I gave it to some folks that were going to take it to Alabama with them.

It only bloomed once for me but since it grew multiple new stalks I don't know why it would not bloom again.

You have to plant that top again. The mother only makes one fruit then bubkus. But they make slips off the side and you can separate and plant those and get fruits from. You can see slips in the pic on the stalk and i bet there are also some at the base of the plant too. The slips take less time to frut than the tops. When we went to fl for the misters last duty station i had pineapple in the back yard that i planted. It takes 18 mon to two years to get a fruit usually. My first one was almost ripe and we had come home for a funeral.... when we got back somethin had eaten one side of it off. Mad mama i was! But i surely did taste the front side that hadnt been eaten lol! It was another six months before i got another one. And you can bet i pulled that dude when he was barely turnin gold.
